Quoting: A Cynical MindAfter all, it's much easier to present a case or enact a law that completely defies logic, if no one even knows what the hell logic is. Puzzle solved. Just makes the 5% of us who do get it feel like we're living in a madhouse. The 'Remnant' is what we are... |

Quoting: A Cynical MindI just think a healthy dose of basic logic could liven the place up a bit. What.... ! You mean there's none here? Damnit ... I don't fit in here then..... “I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as fraud.” CARL JUNG IN 1919 "The power of accurate observation is often called cynicism by those who don't have it." - George Bernard Shaw Cree proverb: Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find, that money cannot be eaten. One being's ridiculous is another being's reality. Where you arrive at from logical deduction depends on where you start - ie. the assumptions that you have consciously or unconsciously used as premises to your argument. So to say a post is ridiculous is simply to say that it violates the assumptions you've made about reality. Are you so certain about your assumptions? All great truths begin as blasphemies. Nobody's sister set it up the bomb so talk to her. Siriusly ... most of the time I'm only jokering around. Sanity is a crazy man's crazy in a crazy world. :Exile: |

I'll tell you something, I do not believe in PX one little bit. I think it is UTTERLY ludicrous. HOWEVER, every single PX thread on here is pounced on by exactly the same people, like clockwork, using their 'argumentative logic'. They seem like clever fellas. why don't they just let the 'loons' have their bit of fun? It's time's like that when my spidey senses go fucking crazy! It's time's like that when things don't quite seem SO ludicrous! |

Quoting: Sara-Ka-ElThe forum numbers are in a state of constant flux. What percentage of people on this forum understand argumentative logic? Given that the number of forum users here is indeed in a constant state of flux, it would be virtually impossible to accurately measure the percentage of how many users here understand argumentative logic. Furthermore, to make such a figure in the first place, it must be assumed that each individual user truly understands the concept and principles behind argumentative logic, and must also be assumed that each individual user is telling the truth. Because such assumptions could never be proven to be 100% correct, and because the user numbers are in a state of constant flux, it is indeed impossible to determine accurately the percentage of users here who understand argumentative logic. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 461379Likewise a premise and it's argument can be true but not logically correct. _____________ Well Said. This shows the very limited practical utility of logic. It is by definition abstract. Symbolic and Syllogistic Logic are actually mostly language-based mathematics. An unnatural union created by over-educated idiots. Logic is WAAAAYYYY over-rated. But a sound and well-supported argument and the ability to rationally defend it, is Waaayyy Under-rated!!! Logic is for those that are stuck in the Trap of Duality. Persuasion is for those that want to win an Argument. |

Argumentative logic can make it easier for someone to create a "sound and well-supported argument" and use it to "rationally defend it". Argumentative logic can also be used to make an argument more persuasive. I don't know how many times I've read a headline, skipped the article or video that it was based on, and gone straight to the comments... And then after reading pages of comments I realize that the original story/video was not worth my time and I could have figured that out if I just would have read the article or watched the video to begin with. |

Using logic many will come to different conclusions, if ego is a factor both sides will find the other wrong and argue their side till the end instead of realising that there may be more to learn. There is always more to learn, one doesn't know what they don't know. |
