Re: How many people on this forum understand argumentative logic?
Of course, it's quite likely that the utter lack of logic in our society is... intentional.

After all, it's much easier to present a case or enact a law that completely defies logic, if no one even knows what the hell logic is.

I just think a healthy dose of basic logic could liven the place up a bit.

Re: How many people on this forum understand argumentative logic?
Perhaps some people are directed here to learn logic, or to practice the use of it?

One being's ridiculous is another being's reality.

Where you arrive at from logical deduction depends on where you start - ie. the assumptions that you have consciously or unconsciously used as premises to your argument.

So to say a post is ridiculous is simply to say that it violates the assumptions you've made about reality. Are you so certain about your assumptions?

argumentative logic eh?

I'll tell you something, I do not believe in PX one little bit. I think it is UTTERLY ludicrous.

HOWEVER, every single PX thread on here is pounced on by exactly the same people, like clockwork, using their 'argumentative logic'.

They seem like clever fellas. why don't they just let the 'loons' have their bit of fun?

It's time's like that when my spidey senses go fucking crazy! It's time's like that when things don't quite seem SO ludicrous!

What percentage of people on this forum understand argumentative logic?
 Quoting: Sara-Ka-El

Given that the number of forum users here is indeed in a constant state of flux, it would be virtually impossible to accurately measure the percentage of how many users here understand argumentative logic.

Furthermore, to make such a figure in the first place, it must be assumed that each individual user truly understands the concept and principles behind argumentative logic, and must also be assumed that each individual user is telling the truth.

Because such assumptions could never be proven to be 100% correct, and because the user numbers are in a state of constant flux, it is indeed impossible to determine accurately the percentage of users here who understand argumentative logic.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate,
Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

An argument can be logically correct but not true.

Likewise a premise and it's argument can be true but not logically correct.

Persuasion is for those that want to win an Argument.

Again I must state that I consider logic to be a useful tool rather than an ideal.

Argumentative logic can make it easier for someone to create a "sound and well-supported argument" and use it to "rationally defend it".

Argumentative logic can also be used to make an argument more persuasive.

Reading comprehension is a far bigger "issue" here.

How about laziness?

I don't know how many times I've read a headline, skipped the article or video that it was based on, and gone straight to the comments...

And then after reading pages of comments I realize that the original story/video was not worth my time and I could have figured that out if I just would have read the article or watched the video to begin with.

Re: How many people on this forum understand argumentative logic?
The logic of each person is subjective due to their experiences, knowledge, environment and disposition.

Using logic many will come to different conclusions, if ego is a factor both sides will find the other wrong and argue their side till the end instead of realising that there may be more to learn.

There is always more to learn, one doesn't know what they don't know.
