I have used and will continue to keep fish Mox and Fish Mycin on hand for various problems. The brands sold by Thomas pharmaceuticals are prescription grade and work very well. I get bronchitis and have gotten walking pneumonia in the past (as well as ear-throat infections for my kids) and having antibiotics on hand makes solving these problems easy. I mentioned it to my GP physician and he said just to be careful with them. (he knows that I am)

they even have a fish cypro (which I plan on having on hand next time I place an order as it will wipe out an anthrax infection)

Hmmm, I am a veterinarian and I buy the conventional drugs from the exact same suppliers as your pharmacist in most cases.

They are the same generics you get at any drug store. I recommend cipro, amoxi, and doxycycline as basics in a survival situation.

There are a few antibiotics that animals get that are not safe for humans... enrofloxicin (Baytril) is not metabolized well by humans, and Chloramphenical is rarely used in humans, but has very very serious, often lethal side effects. Clinadamycin is commonly used in pets but can cause pretty bad diarrhea in humans.

At any rate, antibiotics should only be used in emergency situations. We have already created some superbugs by misuse, and the drugs are not harmless in our own bodies, no matter how innocuous they may seem.

Not true.Just make sure it states its pharmaceutical.Then its the same standards as people medications. If it doesnt state that then yes it has unsafe fillers and shouldnt be taken by persons

This is a good list. Remember, tetracycline is dangerous if it is really out of date--the other ones just don't work as well. I've heard they are still good for 3 to 5 years after the listed expiration date, but ask somebody who knows and who would actually tell you.

Unless the pills are from China or otherwise bogus they are the same as people pills. Think about it; there aren't any "dog pill" factories. Just don't tell the clerk at the feed store the pills are for you because they aren't supposed to sell them for human use altho most of the ones I've talked to don't care.

i was bitten by my cat (badly... i took him away from three dogs who were mauling him. dont worry... $1000 to get him reassembled, he's fine now lol) anyhow, got a nasty pasteurella infection. had some human amoxycillin that fought the infection to a stalemate, and ran out of it. so i raided my SHTF supply of fish mox and it clobbered the infection in 48 hours. i wonder if fish mox worked better because its formulated so fish can absorb it through their skin/gills (dammit Jim, i'm a guitar builder not a veterinarian!)

anyhow, your mileage may vary. i'm not a doctor. if theres any doubt in your mind, dont take any drug. but fish mox worked great for me, without noticeable side effects.

I take it all the time, penicillin, amox, doxycycline. Works great. Doxy I save for when TSHTF.

Amoxicillian does not treat ALL infections and when it comes to teeth and gums you need CIPROFLOXACIN (Cipro) which is a quinolone antibiotic.

Quinolone antibiotics work in a different way than penicillin does. Amoxicillian is of the penicillin family.

Pain does not mean that you have an infection. Impacted wisdom teeth cause pain because they are impacting not infecting. [link to www.animated-teeth.com] has some images to show and explains it in detail.

Your wisdom tooth is putting pressure on either the jaw, the molars in front of it or both. A primary cause of wisdom tooth impaction is simply that there is inadequate jawbone space behind the person's second molar. Another reason is because it is growing in at the wrong angle. You would have similar pain if you gritted your teeth at night. The pressure causes the pain. There is most likely no infection.

Abuse of Antibiotics is an all around bad idea.

1. It kills native flora (helpful bacteria) in your body which opens you up for opportunistic infections and weakens your body thus its immune system. Killing off the flora in your intestines will lead to malnutrition and if you do it often enough you develop acidic stomach, acid reflux, peptic and later bleeding ulcers.

2. If you do have a harmful bacteria in you and your body is already fighting it, then adding antibiotics and not carrying the full course for the specific bacterial infection can lead to only the strongest bacteria surviving. You are thus selectively breeding stronger, antibiotic immune bacteria.

Go to a dentist and have the tooth pulled. It really isn't that much to have a molar pulled.

Since you are not spending money on a medical education I strongly suggest you spend it on a doctor to heal you.

I am probably going to haranged for this but we have been doing this for decades in our family because we have had numerous rescue kennels [cat & dog] We grew up on a farm and we have fish. I have always used it on my dogs & cats and-[with my vets approval]-but he is a cattle man. We have used it as well. Penicillin G for Cattle. You can get huge bottles of the injectable for round 20 bucks. We use fish mox too. If you have the knowledge you are a fool mot to use it, especially now with little money and questionable Drs who may be Death Panelers. I used to be an Animal Ambulance for a short time. You should use caution in dosing little dogs and cats and break the dosage to a 1/4th the bottle directions and giving it by mouth twoce a day is better for long term stuff. We inject ourselves with it. We ain't spring chickens round here and theres tooth problems. What kills the toothache when you get to the emergency room? Not the pain pill I never take them {Tumeric and cloves} so its the antibiotic when it starts working. Fastest way to start it is in yer butt. Now with the healthcare Bill, at our ages in this home we'd rather not end up there in an American Hospital being starved to death because we are too useless to live via age. Most the folk in feed stores if not all are farmers and cattlemen and they do the same thing at their houses. When the med wagon comes to town ask them whats the antibiotics they inject. They will tell you Pen G and Pen V. The difference a little more strength in the animal variety. Just be sure to pick up B-12 or B-Complex injectable and hit yourself with it once every week & a 1/2 while on Pen-G or any Penicillin and Acidophilus every day too.

You are heading down a road where eventually you can lose a jaw bone. Recurring bone infections are not funny, they are not treated with oral antibiotics as a one-shot cure.

You need that tooth yanked, and you need antibiotic gel shot into the socket in order to kill all infection once and for all. Most likely this will be followed with oral antibiotics for up to a month in order to make certain that every last bacteria is dead.

Yep.....the stuff comes off the same line just different packaging.....my pharmacist also sez the same....

that'll work great until the bacteria develops a resistance to amoxicillan, then you will be in BIG trouble ! It's because of this sort of misuse of antibiotics that we have "superbug" strains like MRSA .

The info about tetracycline becoming toxic after expiration is outdated. There were cases a long time ago where expired tetracycline caused kidney failure in a number of patients, but that was due to the way it was made at the time, they have since changed the way it is formulated and it's no longer an issue.
