From a conspiratorial perspective suppressing the media (and the public) from knowing about an increase in space debris hitting earth makes sense in a doomsday scenario. Minimizing the lead time forewarning the populace about a catastrophic event allows those in the know to prepare undisturbed and narrows the panic time window.  it's been coming down all year. not many paid attn. tho. but now i think it is going to be obvious, suppressing the data will keep the public from connecting the dots right away(until the elite get into their bunkers).
