Are you certain that it is marines? The Marine Corps has around 201,000 active Marines at any given time, and between 30 and 50 thousand Marine reserves.
It would be hard to hide an extra million of them "off the books".
While I did hear some odd things while I was in, nothing was ever said about everyone suddenly disappearing...

They can steal 17 trillion dollars, how hard is it to hide 1 million marines? They are already hidden, all that has to be done is make sure none of them come back. It is a one-way deployment.

I like this theory but seriously everytime humans can ever under mind an ET they need scientist types. The military forces are good but wouldn't the air force or a branch in NASA be more obvious to fight the ET's? The scientists could infect their space ship/ships with computer viruses and form viruses to bio logically infect the ET's immune systems and the fly guys from the air force or nasa could be the ones to deliver it. Sorry! I watch too much Sci Fi but it makes more sense.
