What color is the Sun in this photograph. William. Thanks :sn.nny: The Sun in the photograph looks white to me. Also the object below it looks mostly black. What colour is the lower object supposed to be? If you adjust your colour balance to make the lower object its true colour, you might get a better rendering of the Sun's colour. And then again, possibly not as the Sun is a pretty intense light source. Regards JWD |

Regards JWD OK Thanks,JWD 1) The lower object appears to be a green colour, what colour is it? 2) When imaging the sun, the Sun is so bright, that it washes out that area of image capture. During the day, it's almost impossible to get anything but a "white" Sun in images without filters on the camera lens. Sunrise or sunset are a different situation. Regards JWD |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 74444 10/23/2009 02:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What color the Sun appears to be compared to how one remembers it being is subjective, and meaningless. That is why a comparison of the Sun's spectra taken, say, fifty years ago, compared to a spectra taken today would have more weight. They are *measurements.* Big difference. Come up with some *measurements* of the Sun's supposed color changing. THEN you've got something. |

Do you know how cameras work? Do you know the difference between film and CCD? Apparently not. And as far as the Sun being a different color 50 years ago, well, that should be easy enough to proce. Let's look at solar emission spectra from 1959 and the same from this year. That's after you educate yourself concerning what all this means. You'll see that the sun hasn't changed significantly in that time. It certainly hasn't changed colors. I'm curious -- does your knowledge of stellar chemistry begin and end with depictions of the Sun drawn in Crayon by children? Because most of those were yellow...and now you're upset because images of the Solar disc in photographs appear white...omigod, you are the Kindergarden Astronomer! |

And there's a lot more to it than making arbitrary decisions about the color of something that you cannot look directly at in the first place. Why do you ignore my emission spectra suggestion? I suspect it's because you already know hard data about the Sun will prove your own assertions to be groundless. And the Moon was never 'out of place.' That's just silly. |
