it was amusing yesterday when channel 9 told those that couldnt get reception on your mobile to take out the sim card to use emergency line

5 min later they urged folk not to use that line for non emergency's as it flooded with 1000's of calls

We hope the water recedes for all of ya' down under soon.

Now we have a tropical low above north east ql that is likely to turn into a tropical cyclone and there are concerns that winds from that other one heading towards New zealand will bring more rains to the east coast.

The cyclone to the west will draw moisture across oz as well when it hits land

Category one Tropical Cyclone Vince is 1050 kilometres northwest of Exmouth and is slowly edging towards the east at 4km/h.

Wow. We have another expert on the Mayas. The Mayas are not 2000 years older than the Bible and they did not invent the calendar. They perfected it. It was actually first used by other non Maya nations, of Olmec race and culture.

Secondly, the 2012 date is wrong. It is based on a flawed correlation. The cycle everyone claims to know so much about ended in 1988, in April.

The calendar you refer to is not a sun calendar. The calendar you refer to is the complete calendar. It includes ways of calculating the movements of the civic cycle, Venus, Mercury, Mars and the conjunctions between Jupiter and Saturn. It is the system that tracks long periods of time and that's probably why it is called the Long Count. Only one component of the Long Count calendar refers to the sun, and if you really understood it you would know that the solar calendar date on the long count which the 2012ers claim will happen in December could not ever happen in December. The solar part of the calendar is actually where you can see that the December 2012 correlation is wrong. The solar calendar date 3 Kankin can't happen in December, because it refers to the 10th - 29th of April.

The 360 day component of that calendar is not a solar calender. It is the vague year known as Tun, and since it has 5.25 days less than a solar cycle, it can't be used without the ha'ab or solar year component to refer to a date on the solar calendar. But I'm sure you've read lots of books and visited many sites on the net, so you know so much more than I do about the Mayans, please do share your knowledge. I'm sure you know what your moniker means on both the literal level, and on the mythical level. It's a pretty doomy name but I guess fitting in your case.

Apart from the rains in Queensland, is the recent flooding due to the tiltilng of the Australian plate? Coming from Australia i've never known it to flood that much just because of rain. I think there is something more to it

Well i have friends on higher ground at toowoomba who didnt get flooded either.I guess the water followed the river and flood plains as is to be expected
