They have come up with an accurate way of measuring it all too: OK I'll try to be more specific. It was early this morning around 6 a.m., in the heartland, clear sky. The sun was up, and its rising appears to be in the proper placement for this time of year. I am facing south, the moon was in the southwest perhaps 30 degrees up from the mountainous horizon. It was setting not rising. There are many times I see the moon while the sun is in the sky. My thumbnail sizing was totally off base. Going outside the second time made me remeasure it. I laid my fingernails along side of it and it was in between pinky nail and third fingernail size. From the tip of my nose to the full extended finger tips of my hand it is exactly 36 inches. (I've always used this when I did not have a yard stick, very accurate) It just seemed so Tiny, not like last month when it looked like we could just reach up and grab it. [link to news.yahoo.com] The classic study of "doomsdays gone bad" took place in 1954. A Chicago woman named Dorothy Martin predicted a cataclysmic flood from which a few true believers would be saved by aliens. Martin and her cult, The Seekers, gathered the night before the expected flood to await the flying saucer. Unbeknown to them, however, their group had been infiltrated by psychologist Leon Festinger, who hoped to find out what happens when the rug of people's beliefs is pulled out from under them. Quoting: LiveScienceFestinger's study, which became the basis of the book "When Prophecy Fails" (Harper-Torchbooks 1956), revealed that as the appointed time passed with no alien visitors, the group sat stunned. But a few hours before dawn, Martin suddenly received a new prophecy, stating that The Seekers had been so devout that God had called off the apocalypse. At that, the group rejoiced — and started calling newspapers to boast of what they'd done. Eventually, the group fell apart. Martin later changed her name to "Sister Thedra" and continued her prophecies. Sounds a lot like Nancy doesn't it? Make note of Martin's excuse...it wouldn't surprise me if Nancy did something similar. Last Edited by Circuit Breaker on 05/22/2011 11:00 PM A voice of reason in a world of woo-woos. |

Gee - what insight you have! Let's see ... a "storm" consists primarily of TWO things: WATER VAPOR ELECTRICITY They are also affected by pressure and temperature. Change the concentration of ANY one of these factors, and you get a fundamental CHANGE in the storm. A rogue planet would arguably affect earth gravitationally, and ELECTRO-MAGNETICALLY. Quoting: **ZetaMax**No. I am saying it would affect the weather -- but have MANY other MEASURABLE effects, which we have definitively *not* had. Thus, since those other effects have not manifested, an incoming planet does not fit the facts. Many other phenomena fit better. But, then, you'd be in disagreement with Nancy's Dogma. And we can't have that. |

Can you prove that these tornado outbreaks are caused by something in space? Yeah, I thought not. Can you prove that global warming caused by human pollution ISN'T the cause? After all, many scientists have been warning for years that stuff like this will happen. Change the concentration of ANY one of these factors, and you get a fundamental CHANGE in the storm. A rogue planet would arguably affect earth gravitationally, and ELECTRO-MAGNETICALLY. And you say this wouldn't affect the weather??? You have absolutely no proof that any of the above is happening, nor do you have any proof that "Planet X" exists. Any planet that would be causing any of the things you just stated would also be very visible or be very detectable. Like 74444 said - there would be other affects than just the weather. I know where you'll go with this - you'll cite earthquake activity. While there have been some very strong quakes over the past 5 months, it's still within the range of what could be considered the "normal" activity for each year. It may very well be that these strong quakes all occurred within the first five months instead of being spread out over the entire year. I've decided you're just as bad as Harold Camping...you're thoroughly convinced, based on weak and circumstantial evidence, that the world is coming to an end. But, unlike Camping, you think it's all the result of some "rogue planet" that can't be seen or detected. You have as much proof to support your claims as he did. However, if you actually have concrete and verifiable evidence to support your beliefs, then by all means - present it. ![]() Last Edited by Circuit Breaker on 05/23/2011 04:58 PM A voice of reason in a world of woo-woos. |
