I didn't say California and North Carolina "never" had tornados - I said no one "remembers" them. Indeed, the tornados you mention are QUITE "forgettable" ones. An F0 tornado is nothing more than a "wind devil".

Obviously, people remember having them...otherwise we wouldn't be able to find these statistics. And, sorry, an F0 is NOT just a "wind devil" or "dust devil." "Dust devils" are comparable to tornadoes in that both are a weather phenomenon of a vertically oriented rotating column of air. HOWEVER, tornadoes are associated with a larger parent circulation such as the mesocyclone on the backside of a super cell thunderstorm. Dust devils form as a swirling updraft under sunny conditions during fair weather, rarely coming close to the intensity of a tornado.

HISTORY OF RED SPRING'S TORNADO OF 1984:

Interestingly, the last time North Carolina was in placed in a "High" risk for severe weather form the Severe Storms Forecast Center was the 1984 outbreak. I was broadcasting the weather then and remember how at noon, we knew something bad could happen. Indeed it did, with 22 confirmed tornadoes and 57 deaths an 800 injuries that night. The National Weather Service will determine the final count for this year's tornadoes. One thing I know for sure, communication and technology in 2011 is light years ahead of what we had in 1984. That has got to account for the much fewer deaths and injuries.

Winds that can range to just below hurricane status are forgettable? An F0 tornado has winds from 40 to 72 mph. I would hardly call that a "dust devil" (that's the correct term you moron).

Apparently this is the highest the New Zealand dollar has ever been against the USD since 1985. The NZD is now even currently worth more when compared in exchange value to the USD than to the Australian Dollar....something that I find quite amazing. When I travelled with my family to the USA in February 2005 the exchange rate was only around 0.50 or in other words to buy 1 USD it would cost you 2 NZD's. Oh my how times have changed.
