From the wisdom and insight of Bucketheadgirl and Soledad:
I've been uncomfortable with the term "debunker" from the beginning.
Circuit Breaker recently defined the word and his definition brought some clarity to me. His definition of debunker included the words "expose...a claim, assertion, sentiment, etc. as being pretentious, false, or exaggerated." His conclusion: "By calling anyone 'debunker' they're admitting that their claims are false or exaggerated." [I'll give you the where and when if must. Just ask.]
Circuit Breaker's definition brought to mind my uneasiness about our use of the word. I used the term "debunker" because it was in common use on this thread. My dictionary defines debunk as "to expose as false: to demystify".
Do you agree with his conclusion? By calling the nay-sayers "debunkers" are we mispeaking? Just wondering.
