I am keeping an open mind about it, is all. Anybody keeping an open mind about this infuriates the debunkers. Why you guys give such a shit about people keeping an open mind is mindboggling. Trinity himself stated this 3 years ago. He was wondering why the debunkers spent so damn much time on her threads badgering her. You guys are less than credible here at GLP. Free thought is your enemy. It's too bad! Anyone can "wonder" about something. It has been explained countless times that Nancy acquired dedicated debunkers by attacking people of sci.astro and shamelessly pushing lies on the internet. Some people react negatively to such lies. Not you, apparently. |

Quoting: George BDrPostman, Please show your evidence . . . I have to admit that I was puzzled by NASA's entire pre-event hype and the lack of obvious evidence of success. At least the type of success that would match the pre-event anticipation. Here is an image of the IR flash. There should be no surprise that the event was less than spectactular in the optical spectrum since all astronomical web sites warned that imagers would have to keep the moon just off to the edge of the camera's field of view since the plume would be approximately magnitude 8 in brightness (the human eye can only see to mag 5, so it would take time exposures to see the magnitude 8 plume). With the NASA spacecraft camera aimed directly at the lit surface of the moon, it's no wonder at all that the plume wasn't visible in the images. The camera was set for a proper optical light exposure on the fully sunlit surface, so there was never any hope of seeing a magnitude 8 plume against that bright background. The news media just does not understand this stuff. |

"On the other hand, none of the publicity about this mission over the last few days seems to have gone out of it's way to downplay expectations of a big kaboom (I was a little disappointed, and I was only expecting something on the lines of a little-to-middling puff). Public engagement is obviously a good thing, but engaging people labouring under a false assumption could easily backfire." This is no doubt a PR failure on NASA's part. This gets Football coaches, CEO's and leaders of all types fired. Seems NASA is immune from much of this type of public reaction. Martin Luther King . . . "Lackluster performance of the NASA programs"? Are you crazy, or simply ignorant? May I remind you of the fact that we currently have two rovers on Mars that have been operational now for over 2000 days each, exceeded their design lifetimes by more than 20 times. May I remind you of the Mars Reconnaissance Observer currently in orbit around Mars sendiong back high resolution images. May I remind you that the Cassini orbiter has been at Saturn sending back images and data daily for over 5 years after having deployed a lander onto its moon Titan. May I remind you that we have 4 probes that are entering interstellar space...the two Pioneer probes having lasted more than 30 years (FAR beyond their expected lifetimes) and the Voyager probes with Voyager 2 still sending back data after more than 32 years. May I remind you that we recently had the Stardust craft successfully return cometary material and the Deep Impact probe successfully impact Comet Tempel. May I remind you of the New Horizons mission, currently on its way to Pluto. May I remind you of the recent Messenger mission to Mercury. May I remind you of the recent Phoenix Mars polar lander.
