People in Jonestown or Heavens Gate didn't kill themselves - they were killed/murdered. They thought, following the words of their cult leader, that there was no other solution - they believed that what was being done to them was the right thing. They were so brainwashed they thought they would be saved by dying. Most people in Jonestown were brutally murdered, they were threatened with guns and there was no escape. There were lots of children too, brutally murdered. Some people were not there when Jim Jones got totally crazy and so they survived. Some of those people really woke up after the massacre and admitted they had been involved in a cult.
