Not really. The major planets are so bright that they can be seen even in major light pollution. With a GOTO telescope, the brighter planets can even be seen in broad daylight. Now, deep sky stuff is another matter.
Cool ... didn't know that ... when the time (and especially the money) comes I should join the local astronomers club before I buy the wrong equipment.
