Flight 93 crash victim's family: ‘Your whole life changes’

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. — Slipping into bed in her Wonder Woman underwear, young Elizabeth Wainio dreamed of becoming a superhero.

“When I grow up,” she would ask her stepmother as she was tucked in, “do you think I could be Wonder Woman?”

Through the years, Elizabeth Wainio blossomed into an effervescent young woman with an engaging smile, a love for music and a satisfying career as a district manager for Discovery Channel stores.

All the while, the innocent dreams of childhood remained.

“I really want so badly to do something meaningful,” she told her stepmother, Esther Heymann, as they sat on the front porch of their suburban Baltimore home six years ago.

“I want to make a difference in this world.”

“Of course,” Heymann now recalls, “nobody would have thought that within the next year, this would have occurred.”

On Sept. 11, 2001, 27-year-old Elizabeth Wainio called Heymann for the last time from aboard United Flight 93, more concerned about the welfare of her family than her own.

Moments later, the hijacked jet plunged into a reclaimed strip mine near Shanksville as passengers rushed the cockpit.

All 33 passengers and seven crew members were killed on the only hijacked plane that did not reach its intended destination, believed to be either the U.S. Capitol or the White House.

‘It’s been like hell’

On the fifth anniversary of the day regular Americans aboard Flight 93 began the war on terror, the pain persists for Ben Wainio and Heymann.

It could come from hearing “Amazing Grace,” the song Judy Collins sang at a concert Ben Wainio attended with his daughter. Or from spoiling her cat, Sabrina. Or simply from the phone ringing unexpectedly.

“It’s been like hell for me,” Ben Wainio said.

“The first couple of years were all these peaks and valleys, like riding a wave on the ocean. Those waves have become further and further apart as the years go on.”

“It’s a nightmare you don’t wake up from,” Heymann added.

Now, Wainio, 61, and Heymann, 57, are immersed in preserving their daughter’s memory.

They travel every three months from their home in Catonsville, Md., to Flight 93 Task Force meetings in Somerset and spend countless hours on conference calls working on plans for a permanent Flight 93 National Memorial. Heymann is passionate about fund raising for the monument, and she anticipates helping with planning for the visitors’ center.

“It’s a lot bigger than Elizabeth, but certainly Elizabeth is what brought us to it,” she said. “I so believe that a small group of people can make a huge difference. That’s such a powerful message. For me, that is terribly important to think that these people weren’t passive victims.

“Wouldn’t you want your child to feel they could make a difference in the world, even under the most trying circumstances?”

‘Greatest challenge’

Soon after the crash, Wainio and Heymann retrieved their daughter’s belongings from her apartment – furniture and other items that remain stored at their home.

They still have her cat, which they were caring for when Elizabeth Wainio went on a business trip to Italy and France before Sept. 11.

“It’s hard for me to be at home,” Heymann said. “Every time the phone rings, I expect it to be Elizabeth. Every time I turn on the computer, I expect her e-mails.

“Living here for me is the greatest challenge,” she added, fighting back tears.

“I experience her absence so greatly. You have somebody snatched out of your life in a second, and your whole life changes.”

Heymann had helped raise her stepdaughter since Elizabeth was 3 years old. Heymann and Ben Wainio were married when Elizabeth was 5.

“She called me Mom,” Heymann said.

“I would definitely say she and I were best friends.”

Seventeen days after the crash – on Elizabeth’s birthday – a memorial service was held. The family compiled, printed and distributed a tribute titled “Celebration of Life,” with notes and stories from those closest to her.

“Her uncle came up to me and said, ‘I used to think Elizabeth just treated me special. After reading that, I see she treated everybody that way,’ ” Ben Wainio reminisced.

“She was a good human being – full of life – and had a wonderful smile. I miss her so much.”

It has been equally difficult for their youngest daughter, Sarah, now 19, a student at Fordham University in New York who served on the opening jury to help choose the design for the Flight 93 memorial.

“Those two were like peas in a pod,” Heymann said.

“They listened to rock ‘n’ roll music together, they went for drives, they went to Baskin-Robbins for ice cream.

“That definitely is a real heart-breaker,” Heymann said.

“It’s not fair for Sarah. It’s not fair at all.”

Community comfort

Through it all, Elizabeth Wainio’s family members are comforted by the support they’ve received in Shanksville and Somerset.

Eighteen months after the crash, Heymann went to Mount Aloysius College with other families to share thoughts of their loved ones. Afterward, they traveled to the crash site on a snowy winter day.

As the other families were preparing to depart, Heymann stayed behind to spend time alone.

“I can’t leave,” she told Flight 93 volunteer ambassador Ed Klein of Stoystown.

“He was so kind,” she said. “He said, ‘Please come home and have a bowl of soup with my wife and me.’ They helped me get past that moment.

“I just want to point out how wonderful everybody is. It helps more than you can imagine. It is the best in humanity.”

For Ben Wainio, the crash site holds deep meaning.

For years, he and Heymann would take Elizabeth and his son, Tom, now 35, to visit their grandmother in Charleroi, Washington County. Rather than taking on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, they would travel Route 31 through Somerset.

“The summer my mom died in ‘98, I said to Esther, ‘I guess we’ll never be taking this drive again,” he said.

“But here we are, taking the same drive.

“If I had a choice, I’m so glad she was on Flight 93. I feel like she’s home in western Pennsylvania.”

Sarah Wainio, Elizabeth Wainio’s sister, may sum up that ambivalence:

The film, says Wainio, is “incredibly hard to watch. But I want this story to be shared, and I want people to be put on that plane.

“We have been dealing with it and thinking about it and imagining what happened that day for four years now,” she says. “But the public hasn’t always been thinking about it.”

In the end, she adds, “I have to be peaceful about it. It sounds like an oxymoron to be peaceful about something like this. But I know who my sister was, and I carry with me all my wonderful memories of her.

“This wasn’t her whole life. This is just how it ended.”

With the fifth anniversary of 9/11 nine weeks away, hotels and other accommodations in Somerset County already are filling up with visitors who plan to attend ceremonies at the Shanksville field where Flight 93 plummeted to earth.

"We've been sold out for months," said Jennifer Logue, manager of the Hampton Inn in Somerset.

The 111-room motel will house mostly family members of Flight 93 passengers.

"We've always sold out for 9/11," Logue said.

John Knupp, of The Inn at Georgian Place, said his 11-room bed-and-breakfast is 90 percent booked for the long weekend leading up to ceremonies on Sept. 11, which this year falls on a Monday.

"We'll have a lot of the families staying here," Knupp said. "They'll start to come in on Thursday (Sept. 7)."

Ben Wainio, of Catonville, Md., whose daughter, Elizabeth Wainio, was a passenger on Flight 93, said he was able to squeeze in one of the last bookings at the Hampton Inn before registrations were closed.

"Those people at the Hampton Inn have been so gracious to us," said Wainio, who has visited the crash site 13 times.

Liz, I still think of you often. A lot of us from CHS are keeping in touch with Facebook, and it's hard to know you're not out there too. Just recently I had to explain 9/11 to my 7 year old (we were also discussing the Challenger explosion in his space book). And I told him I lost an old friend that day. I think we've all now had our fun with Clare and have all been surprised at how truly evil the "no planes" movement is. I'm done wasting my time with her ilk and suggest that we not humor her arrogant ignorance any further. There is no arguing logic with one who has so willingly drank the koolaid as her.

Clare insists there is a very complex and intricate cover-up. She has presented what she feels is evidence of that cover-up. If you do not accept the evidence you don't accept her connecting the dots on the evidence.

I have no idea what happened other than what I have seen on the TV screen. Therefore, to negate what was seen by millions of people over, and over, and over again takes significant evidence which is verified and validated by authoritative experts . . . and then supported by the media to reinforce the findings to the public. Some experts have placed their careers on the line questioning the party line and doing so have lost their credibility to many. These people have been courageous if not nuts according to many.
I therefore will present two pieces of evidence which bother me and I have no explanation for them. The first is above:

THIS IS THE POINT.

You guys are so blinded by your 1-to-1-to-1 thinking (everything is "a fact" and all your assumptions play in the same on each one), you don't see the comparative aspects, such as 2-to-2 or 3-to-3 sitting right beside.

If you did, you'd show more evidence of having seen that different questions are relevant to EACH TYPE of fakery and even for many photos which dont show fakery but haven't been upated and don't have profiles, or if they do have the latter, those are flimsy and never updated either. ALL these things become clear because of the fewer (but still dozens) of manipulated photos.

What also becomes clear is that some people are going around as family members with victims who have faked photos. This makes us have to postulate that the family member is only a plant and the storyline thin.

Thus ...

The Website and vids were pointing out DIFFERENT kinds of deception. Let's handle them one at a time, but they're DIFFERENT.

1. There are TONS of useless photos with no updates -- some you can't see the person, some were horrible photos, bad prints, etc. Okay, you might expect 1 or 2 but so many?

These went up right away and have never been changed.

2. There are better photos with no updates and an inplausible comment, such as, for example, the two top-end brothers who have one friend's brief comment and were supposed to have been in charge of 650 people, but no-one's mentioned them again.

3. There are some bad photos which have no or few coments, no updates and show morphing (photo overlay and feature blending/choosing) or are repeats of the same photo but have a different colour tone or smudge on teeth, or are flipped (teeth flipped too, they were so sloppy) and maybe one different eye.

COMPARATIVE NOTES FOR YOU THINKERS WHO MISSED THIS FOREST FOR THE TREES:

#3 is ---- where the forged photos appear.

#1 or 2 ----- we have mere photo pin-ups or pin-up profiles with photos ... THEY are the BULK of the deception. They are the many many more undeveloped names/faces, to bump the numbers.

SOME may turn out to be genuine people whose loved ones never bothered to provide better info or pictures. This CAN happen. But not likely this many.

Okay so ... #4:

4. This is where you have the very very obvious fake photos (Wanio and Beamer, for example) AND a developed story, with a family member you see at every occasion, so to speak.

Note how few of these cases there are, for the suspect photos.

One could expect that not every family of over a thousand would be out in the streets or having memorial fundraisers for them, that's true, so there is no reason for ALL these people to have more family out, or for ALL these people to have full bios.

But so MANY don't (from points 1, 2, 3), and there are a few who do (Wanio, Beamer, for example) but the photos are clearly faked.

They are the fuller, fleshed-out cover story to keep so many others in the house of cards, standing.


That was always the point. You missed it in your emotional reaction to the face flip-flop of one or two of them, and your conviction that a newspaper call-in or one person doing the circuit should be "untouched" by skepticism.

How debunker of you is that? LOL!

This was a PSY OP. Everything and everyone is suspect until proven innocent. And with fake photos hanging around peple claiming a family member, and bios undeveloped with bad photos for so many others,

it merely means the psy op extended to the poster people. (Some of them.) Easy to do. It's in layers of deception. Only a few (with fake photos you never noticed) are "developed" personal backgrounds, and you don't notice the rest without. PERFECT deception. Except the photos for these personas (Beamer, Wanio) are clearly fake when you look.

If she's real, she should have real photos.

And why no record in the SSDI? Like Beamer?

Now, if we got the real photos and so on and a record in the SSDI and hundreds of people who knew her (this could happen in a court case) and it might take that, for such a big psy op to prove existence vs. lying, then fine, maybe we could prove she was real but the photos were faked for some weird reason. :)

First, we're not going to get the court case.

So, WE have to ask, why fake photos AND no SSDI? And since these are the case, either these witnesses are lying or there's some reason to make her have fake IDs and some miracle, along with Beamer, and others, where she doesn't (or rather, didn't) have an SSDI record.

(If they now add an SSDI record for her and Beamer and who knows how many of these other fake records, that doesn't count. :) ... By the way, because of the fake vids and photos, note that in a FULL court case about psy op on 9/11, EVERY identity for 9/11 would have to be tested to the fullest. Yup. That's what reason would do, even if it's barely feasible, that's what would have to occur. Too many fake IDs causes the whole thing to be questionable.)

Sure. Okay. If she died that day, why the fake photos and no SSDI record?

Keep your mental priority of questions in ORDER.

NOW, if we know she's not necessarily real we can ask pertinent questions about how the fake ID became necessary if she WAS real:

So we can hypothetically grant she might be real (not forgetting she likely is not): a detective would ask, if real as a person, why the fakery then? More cute photos, to boost sales at her memorial banquet?

How was she not on SSDI? An error?

Beamer, too, an error? Or only one error -- i.e., one's real and one's fake?

How about so many others with duplicate, flipped and photoshopped or morphed photos? Do they all have family coming out? No. Do they have identity stories in newspapers? No. (If it starts now, for nearly a thousand people, it doesn't count, unless -- in a court case, with subpoena powers, some questionable IDs did check out.)

I'll bet you, numerically speaking, most wouldn't. Can't GUARANTEE which ones wouldn't, but probably Wanio is among them.

Fake photos? No SSDI? Perhaps a girl named Wanio WENT to the high school. Are there real yearbooks? Did the actual students remember her? No-one NO-ONE remembers Obama from Columbia, except another guy for whom there are no school records and who "roomed with him off campus for the 1/st seester only". Gimme a break.

Not necessarily. But if PX were here (occurred), they might be. There are ways, for long periods of time, to hold information back or fudge it a bit.

One could postulate such a thing no problem. The question is, are they? Do we have any evidence they are? I think the fact that our filters are so good to see the Sun means there is no Planet X there, unless it has some fabulous cloudy camouflage. :)

What is speculative is the exact persons who were faked. Some must remain unnown, but the overall number of radical incongruities between these photo people is such that most or all have to be fakes. Which ones, we don't know exactly of course and will never know with absolute certainty because we don't have the resources of an impartial national court.

All hypotheses are speculative until the evidence settles down. When it does, then you can put as many pieces as close to perfect as possible and compare the hypotheses. Some pieces trump other hypotheses though, right off the bat: and PARALLAX IMPOSSIBILITIES mean there WAS fakery, whatever else was going on.

You people are NOT scientific when you do what you're doing now.

The 6 identiflip (well, 3 identiflip and 1 morph and flip) stand whatver other photos are produced. Why the identiflips?

Plus, notice, her feature position and mouth are the same here. She's just been reduced and given redeye.

However, it MIGHT be an earlier photo of the same model, from youth. Not likely.

They say they do.

What about the fake photos and no SSDI?

You haven't proven any fake IDs. You haven't proven any fake photos. The one specific case you tried to make for a "fake" victim was totally ripped to pieces. So, now you're trying to say "What is speculative is the exact persons who were faked."

We can research ANY of the victims and prove conclusively prove they and their families are real.

There were no flights into the towers. There was a missile and pyrotechnics or no missile (though I think there was a missile, 'cause there's a blob in one shot with no plane, a very early shot, never seen on TV again). The rest was fakery. TV fakery -- there are parallax problems in the videos: they were composites to cover parts of the real events that day.

As to the people saying they knew her -- maybe she was real at the high school and went into intelligence in University and then was killed but not in a flight? You see, you don't have to have 9/11 planes into crash sites to have SOME of these people be real and SOME fake and SOME dying somewhere.

The only point here is SEPARATE IT ALL IN YOUR MIND.

Now, she had 3 identical photoheads; and a flip with a morph on one, and another identical head of that one in another.

She's not in the SSDI.


So, if she's real, or even died on that day -- she's not a real IDENTITY FOR 9/11, or she died on 9/11 but not on planes/ in towers, etc.

This othe photo is still the same expression and angle, but with red-eye. Note her skin doesn't look right for the quality of the photo either. They COULD have used an early real photo here, but it's so similar it's doubtful.

Why does everyone argue the family claimants? Only under normal circumstances would people signing a guestbook be okay as evidence.

The issue is, IF she has family, why are there so many photo duplicates for her (2 types of face duplicated into other photos)???????

-- possibly all photos, unless you count maybe the Christmas tree one as an exception, but even that is same angle of face on head, rather unnatural?

And then there's Beamer.

And others.

And the dozens of duplicates with no family mourners.

And the morphs.

And no SSDI records.
