Continue to watch the signs. ROFLMAO. How old are you, Andrew? I've been around for 60 years and let me tell you, weird weather, volcanos and quakes are nothing new. Some years are worse than others. You talk about the disasters in terms of human and material loss. Yeah, disasters affect more people than ever because there are more people than ever before, and a lot of them are living in areas that are prone to disasters. Insurance companies are paying out more? Probably because property values are the highest they have ever been. The earthquake in Haiti had horrible impact on the people, but the quake was not that strong. I have been in quakes of similar magnitude and nothing bad happened. Haiti suffered so badly because of poor construction that had already been subjected to weather events and quakes. The quake in Chile was stronger but it didn't cause nearly as much damage. As for Oxfam, having dealt with these bloodsuckers myself in the past, their opinion means nothing. It's just another excuse for them to extract money from people to further their idiotic programs and skim off the top for personal gain. Keep watching those signs Andrew. I am sure that when you are an old man like me you will still be watching and waiting for the big event to happen. What a waste of youth, hiding under the bed waiting for bad things to happen!

Violent weather cost the world a record $89 billion during 1998, more than in all of the 1980s, per the Worldwatch Institute and Munich Re.
Total disaster-related economic losses hit record 232 billion US dollars in 2008, continuing a long-term trend.
