Catseye User ID: 1134614 Dominican Republic 11/04/2010 08:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Funny how everyone so far has failed to comment on that "miracle mile" of virgin concrete in the middle of probably the most SALTED place on Earth. Quoting: Circuit BreakerFunny that ... How do I know it's a miracle mile? I don't live in Detroit. Do you know as absolute fact that section had never been worked on or patched? Yes, perhaps back in the day they used a different mix of concrete that stood up better. But you can't say there's some conspiracy to it when you don't have all the facts. Well, if Planet X is tearing up the highway, it's certainly done a good job of it in this country. I have had my front end repaired 3 times in the last 3 years because of the holes in the road. My unpaved road is going to be obliterated because we are going to get some heavy rains. For a couple of days there, it looked like we were really going to get hammered. But Tomas keeps jerking itself around and traveling in a squiggly line. Tomas is bigger than the whole island of Hispaniola itself - Haiti is the left 1/3 of the island, Dominican Republic is the right 2/3. Regardless of its path, Haiti is doomed, as usual. But we're going to have a real mess over here, too. Lots of Dominicans live in shack housing. If it curves some more and we get high winds, there will be some Dominicans in Oz. Forgive your enemies, it messes with their heads. Thoughts create, mind them well. |

This new person says they are using Stellium, butapparently doesn't understand what Earth's rotation does to the orientation of sky objects along with some other misconceptions. Quoting: Menow 1119283[link to poleshift.ning.com] Comment by Viktorio 12 hours ago You can see the exact moon phase and angle in some astronomical software, I use Stellarium. Download it for free, input your location and local time, tick the option Moon 4x (larger moon) and you can see the Moon position and angle and phase at any moment. It will help. (If this software loads your CPU too much - use safe mode - no OpenGL mode) I also think there is no other reason for dramatic orientation change in moon position except axial tilt. This leads to different angle between ecliptic and horizon during the day. So Moon angle may seem a little different, but not drastically. OMG! That post, just above, from Viktorio has been removed from that thread on Nancy's ning! All he did was suggest using Stellarium! ***ZetaMaX*** User ID: 659599 United States 11/04/2010 05:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The kind of fearlessness that Ney personally possessed? You know what that is mostly comprised of?? Quoting: DrPostmanNine parts "I DON'T GIVE A SHIT". You really don't give a shit if you live or die - and so you REALLY don't give a shit about using a bunch of pretty men on pretty horses who look good in parades when everything is on the line. Ney saw nothing "special" about that cavalry - they were more "resources", nothing more, nothing less. Napoleon obviously saw things differently, and it may be that his vanity clouded his judgment. Before you go on about Napoleonic warfare being "pretty men on pretty horses" you ought to watch some of the Sharpe series: [link to www.youtube.com] Ney was stupid enough to fall for Wellington's trick of pulling back from the ridge, so he sent in the cavalry to finish them off. There was EVERYTHING special about cavalry if you understand Napoleonic warfare. Had they brought with them the tools to spike the guns (which were abandon when the British formed into squares) it would have forced Wellington to withdraw. I noticed how you ignored his fuck up at Quatre Bras. As for what courage is you have never served so you don't have a clue. Most courageous warriors are full of fear. It's not letting the fear control you that makes for courage. Only a psychopath doesn't fear dying in battle. >> Ney was stupid enough to fall for Wellington's trick of pulling back from the ridge, so he sent in the cavalry to finish them off. Now look who's playing arm chair Field Marshal. It's not like there was satellite and aerial intelligence to draw from. Indeed the pull back maneuver is an obvious and frequently employed tactic because it often works. It's also risky because if not timed properly, the troops on the move are more at risk than when entrenched. Battlefield intelligence in that era was poor at best under most circumstances, and tactics often involved a calculated risk, with the calculation only being as good as the intelligence on hand. Ney was no greenhorn when it came to strategy and for every "blunder" one can easily list two or more battles where his application of tactics was spot-on, often creative, and in some instances brilliant. How the hell else do you think he even got to be a Field Marshal in the first place? Keep in mind he was active for nearly twenty years - most of that in actual combat. He had a habit of turning down every promotion offered, and relented only when ORDERED to take it. He was far more self-aware than most leaders of that era, knowing his own weaknesses and doing everything he could to try an compensate for them. The best advice we can give on this matter is to read with your heart as well as your mind. Follow the flow, let the nuances lie unanswered and unchallenged in your mind. Quoting: DrPostman4 years of military school and 4 years of USAF added to a passion for wargaming for 35 years. Yea, I know a little bit about strategy and tactics. I'll give you that. My interest in military history is passing at best. I read a couple books on Ney more than 20 years ago when I was first told about him. Beyond that I rarely think about it. The average board gamer knows FAR more minutia than I ever will. I don't have an "aversion" to war as much as I feel a tremendous FUTILITY about it all. Honor was in VERY short supply then, and "now". To be honest, I was far more interested in his marriage and family life than his battle field exploits. Ney was an expert at rear-guard actions, that's all he was Quoting: DrPostmangood at. The attack at Quatre Bras proves that. Ney was a SURVIVOR. When your ass is on the line, you pull out all the stops. Being profoundly fearless, he could strategize and problem solve almost as well in those circumstances as when enjoying a glass of wine in Napoleons command tent during more offensive engagements. Ney was a TRUE combat SOLDIER. Napoleon was a mental freak who could do complex cannon triangulation in his head. Ney could make a horse do ANYTHING, Napoleon couldn't even stay up on one. Very different personages they were - and each admired the strengths and talents of the other. If this country "COLLAPSES", it's gonna essentially be REAR GUARD action for EVERYONE. You up for it?? Circuit Breaker User ID: 1090932 United States 11/04/2010 08:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know it as fact - drove it myself. The concrete surface was weathered from age, but not broken. We've all seen fifty year old sidewalk in areas where it looks weathered, but often whole sections remain intact. Quoting: ***ZetaMaX***Wow, then you're one old dude to have driven that section everyday for 50 years. And what? they "lost" the recipe? Highly doubtful. What's more likely is they started using cheaper materials and also figured out that if they made it "too" good, they wouldn't be back in ten years to rip it all up and pour it all over again. I know that as well, lived there long enough to see the VERY SAME construction company "back" pouring new concrete to replace the junk they poured ten years earlier. Quoting: ***ZetaMaX***Where's the incentive NOT to cut corners and screw the taxpayer? And I find it HIGHLY ironic that nowadays we have TRUE technological MARVELS that can now literally "eat" the road surface and conveyor it into waiting trucks in a faction of the time it took to rip it up with common excavators. So now they can redo these roads with a paltry amount of labor (increasingly non-union), but get the same huge contracts and the owners pocket exponentially bigger portions of the payout. But somehow we can't "find" that old recipe to make the road last. What a racket. Um, Max...where have you been? This doesn't happen just in the transportation industry. Electronics have been "throw away" for years. It's simply more cost effective. It may not be right, but that's the way it is. A pastor known to the gentleman who called me had been called into a very prominent East Coast bank to tell the pastor by one of its top people at the bank that a bank holiday is coming as early as Nov 11. The reason you all have a sense of SOMETHING BIG getting ready to happen is the FACT that it is HAPPENING NOW. When all commerce ceases, no goods are on the store shelves and all transportation comes to a silent stop. Then will it be clear, even to those who finally get it, that the only ones who will be eating, other than those who have prepared, are the zombies, and none of us want to end up on their evening menu!
