Why did the moon turn Red? It should have gone to the opposite end of the color spectrum, shade is cyan. [ link to icons-ecast.wunderground.com] Nope. During an eclipse, the moon is illuminated by the sunlight refracted into the earth's shadow by the atmosphere. Just as sunsets and sunrises are red when the sun is just below the horizon, the light that is refracted into the shadow zone is red. If you were on the moon during a lunar eclipse, you would see the earth hiding the sun and a red glow all around it, which is the combined light of the sunsets from all around the earth at the same time.
