I think Luser was ultimately laid off. As funds grew tighter at Troubled Times, Inc., she had the hard decision of deciding who to keep around. It became apparent to her that Max did a far better job of supporting her than Luser did. She realized that his insults did more to discredit her than it did to support her. So, she got rid of him.
