I don't drive a "car". I own two 4X4's - both with beefy suspensions, skid plates and high clearance. My Blazer "High Rider" was purchased new in 2001 and now has over 105,000 miles on it. I've done almost nothing to it except change oil, and I just put two new rear tires on it. The front tires are still factory original and still have so much tread left, they can easily go another 20-30,000 miles. The decision to own such a vehicle may seem a bit "extreme" since I don't use it for serious off-roading (which is what it was truly built for), but that decision paid off BIG just this winter. I was driving on a snow covered road doing 50 mph when an oncoming truck started creeping over the center lane. I was forced to move right and my right side tires lost traction in what probably was the snow covered shoulder. The vehicle fish tailed and then headed off the road at 45 degree angle into a 4 foot deep drainage ditch. Not fighting the inevitable I decided to steer straight into the ditch - at 50 mph. The Blazer went airborn, but due to my fast reaction it hit the opposite sloping side of the ditch at such an angle that it enabled the vehicle to climb the ditch wall - thanks entirely to the high clearance. I "drove" up the opposite site, regained some control and "decided" I didn't want to remain in the ditch so I turned the other way, drove down into the ditch and up the opposite side and popped out onto the road - going airborne "again" in the process. I headed down the road again and the vehicle felt "fine" - solid. Got home and the only damage was the plastic wheel well flange and some screw supports for the grill and headlight bezel. Otherwise, NORMAL. Even the wheel alignment held up. If I had done that maneuver in an ordinary car, the car would have been TOTALED and both me and my daughter would probably have been injured (or worse). And yes - the Blazer was in 4 wheel drive mode at the time - which enabled me to retain some control throughout the ordeal.

My PESSIMISM saved me - not my "optimism". I was PREPARED for the worst - and as a result survived it physically AND financially when the danger materialized.

Glad you and your daughter came out of that all right. But you miss my point, entirely.

That you operate or ride in ANY vehicle -- AT ALL -- is far more dangerous than the things you repeatedly advise people here to overprepare for.

Your chances of dying in an Earthquake: 1 in approximately 153,000.

A Storm? About 1 in 51,000

Electricity or Radiation? About 1 in 9400.

Now -- a VEHICLE where you are a passenger? 1 in 272.

A VEHICLE where you are DRIVING? 1 in 85.

YET: you own and operate vehicles on a near daily basis, I'll wager. Were you RATIONAL in your PESSIMISM: you should not drive AT ALL. You should tell your daughter to never set foot in a car or truck AGAIN. EVER.

After all, the odds of dying as a pedestrian are only about 1 in 623. If you were "consistent" in your "pessimism" you would sell your vehicles at this very moment.

But you won't.

You routinely advise (or support those that advise) truly astonishing amounts of so-called preparations for events that are ridiculously unlikely to happen -- yet for those fatal occurrences of every day, you remain, to use YOUR phrase, "optimistic."

Your particular flavor of "doomer" mentality is quite illogical. You should consider critically reexamining it.

Although, I've noticed you aren't supporting her as much as you are Clif....who has also been wrong numerous times. That being the case, I guess we're going from debunking Nancy to debunking Clif. So, we'll be here to listen to you spin this latest prediction when it fails in just two weeks. After all, we know you won't simply admit he was wrong...you didn't the last couple of times.

Clif is just like Nancy and the rest of the prophets of doom and gloom. Keep shifting the dates forward and make the prophecies as vague as possible so that anything even remotely related can be used as proof of their accuracy.

It begs the question. If the Zetas knew what would happen in Japan, why didn't they choose a Japanese national, someone who could have "gotten the message out" to people that happen to not speak English. Could it be that the STO zetas only care about those that speak English? And where pray tell should the Japanese have moved inland to? Have you ever been to Japan? Do you not know that there isn't much habitable land to go around? Surely you know that beyond the coastlines are mountains prone to landslides. In fact they are concerned that rains may bring slides to the already unstable mountains and hills.
