There never was a "public" space program using the strictest sense of the word. The "public" were only spectators.

As for the space program, there are multiple programs going that allow the "public" to see the results.

That's a joke? That he managed to image the ISS with a telescope? Easily done with the proper equipment considering the size of the ISS. Quite a few amateur astronomers have been able to image the ISS with their telescopes.

but if you go to Nasa's website, look at the top of the page is a button called `missions' and click on that, then click on current
it shows how many launches are upcoming- I made it so a three year old could find the link - or maxipad...

I can see maxipads scratching his head in bewilderment- if the shuttles aren't flying- how can Nasa be still launching anything???

I personally feel that the demise of that particular `mouse designed by a committee' is a good thing- it never lived up to its expectations, and huge costs contributed heavily to the cutting back of other and IMHO far more deserving programs

It was designed to do everything, and as a result it never really did anything WELL

Its not as if Nasa really needs a personnel rated lifter that badly, there's several others in the space game that can lift Nasa personnel to orbit if required(as humbling as that might be having to rely on another countries spacecraft) or at a pinch, several of the US heavy lifters such as the Delta 4 Heavy is very close to being personnel rated with only minor mods (and if the need was great enough that rating could be ignored and personnel still would be willing to risk it)

By modern standards, the old Saturn 5's would never have left the ground, but then that was a different time when cars didn't even have seat-belts (works new sedan has ELEVEN!!!! airbags) and people weren't so `precious' as they are these days...

I'm finally going to be able to see launches from Kennedy...taking a contract job in Melbourne, FL. One of my secret squirrel gigs.

Almost saw the last night launch last November but it was cancelled in the wee hours of the morning - all that driving for nothing.
