It often takes a complete outsider to introduce RADICAL ways of looking at "old" data. Within disciplines, the "churn" of the foundational theories that built the discipline itself become so SACRED that radical theories cannot even get an audience. Any astronomy student that started questioning "everything" would probably barely survive a bachelor's program - much less have a doctoral dissertation accepted.
