It's gone up 55 cents in the past two weeks here. I'm contemplating getting rid of my Toyota 4Runner because I have a 45 mile commute each way. The 4Runner gets around 17 mpg highway which requires me to fill up every four days. That runs me $75...or about $450 a month (almost a quarter of my monthly salary) or $5,412 a year. I've thought about getting a 2012 Honda Civic that gets 39 mpg. Since it only has an 11.5 gallon tank (compared to 25 in the 4Runner), I'd still have to fill up every four days. BUT, it would only cost me about $35 each time...or $213 a month. HALF of what I'm paying now. So, even if my monthly car payment went up $50 to $75 a month, I'm still coming out ahead by at least $100 a month.

Something doesnt add up here C.B.
the 4runner (which is what a hilux is called over there) a 4x4 right?
thats what I have- a 4x4 hilux (mine is a single cab with aluminium tray on its back fitted with the 2.4 diesel and 5 speed manual) mine gets 10L/100 km- I know because the fuel guage doesnt actually work, so I reset the trip meter every time I fill up (near enough to $100 a tank) and I get just over 550 kilometers a tankfull before running out

so basically my diesel hilux gets 23mpg which is a lot better than your 4runner is getting, in fact my town cycle is equal to your city cycle for the same car- and mines twenty years old....
