I have been group mailing snippets from Nancy's weekly ravings for some years now, they never fail to bring a laugh to those with common sense.
If I can offer a suggestion; when "debunking" zetatalk, you could try and see how some one could look favorable on it first. This will be a stretch I realize, but if you want to communicate an idea you need to understand the mind set of the person you are communicating with. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 725512
We have and we still do, perhaps this will help you gain an understanding of Nancy and her followers.
{quote:Prof_Rabbit
Unfortunately the prognosis for Nancy is not good, claiming planet x as an incoming brown dwarf star in 1995 Nancy has escalated her claims over the years to culminate in the destruction of life as we know it in 2003, when this failed to materialize (and all her supporters left) Nancy's delusion simply grew and common sense of any kind disappeared, now a "water planet" inside the orbit of Venus planet x fails to vaporize due to a protective "dust cloud" while remaining invisible from all telescopes on earth.
Meanwhile Planet x and it's zetas have stopped the earth from orbiting and bob the earth up and down to fool everyone that nothing is amiss, Nancy "channels" zeta information via a "chip" in her head put there by the zetas who originally contacted Nancy by showing her an unwrapped starburst candy in a box.
Nancy wants us to prepare for planet wide destruction "real soon" during which 95% of humans will perish while true "believers" will be saved by Nancy and her zetas. I guess this is a minimalist synopsis. Nancy's proof of planet x includes pictures of a child's kite in front of the sun.
After more than 12 years without treatment Nancy demonstrates several psychotic disorders including, Delusional Disorder, Schizophrenia and Narcissistic Personality Disorder, while her family originally attempted to help, Nancy refused and has progressively deteriorated over the ensuing years.
Nancy has a complex mental condition that includes a "Messianic complex" vis.
quote
Messianic complex is a psychological state in which the individual believes him/herself to be, or is destined to become, the saviour of the particular field, a group, an event, a time period, or in an extreme scenario, the world.
People with Messianic Complexes tend to see themselves as saviours to a specific group of people or a specific field, making claims of their own glory, or claiming a self awareness of their own gift and how that gift can affect a group of people or a field of life.
In the most extreme cases, people with Messianic Complexes may see themselves as spiritual/religious Messiahs with transcendent powers who are destined to save the world.
end quote
FreeStore bought this hook line and sinker, giving up his worldly possessions to build a shelter, when May 2003 came and went FreeStore was left to either admit he made a mistake or follow Nancy, FreeStore was so entrenched with the idea of zetas that his wife and child left, so FreeStore has nothing except Nancy and the zetas, it is a sad story, one that demonstrates what happens to a cult after it collapses.
In zetatalk they make a mockery of mans science calling it a short sited cleverness. (not a direct quote) So if you want to actually engage some one who is seriously trying to comprehend what is being said, you will need to look outside of your own self interests long enough to be heard. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 725512
Some of us have been here for many years, we have tried to bring common sense to those who stop here and look, I think we have successfully given people a chance to think while reading Nancy's delusions.
There are perhaps three or four "followers" who refuse to think, look or listen, in essence they wish for "world wide destruction", likely to fulfill their empty hateful existence.

Provide some examples. I can easily point to the 45 million
year old pattern of island creation by the Hawaiian Hot Spot,
along with other hot spots that show similar slow movement of
the Earth's plates. Any rapid movement would disrupt that
pattern. Same thing goes for the magnetic zebra striping
of the Mid Atlantic Ridge that has provided us proof of
periodic magnetic polarity swaps but no crustal displacement
other than the slow and steady movement of the Earth's plates. "I've had two teenagers who were considering killing themselves, because they didn't want to

"Zetas" claim that Earth will stop and then turn 90 degrees in one hour. Not survivable. Period.
link please.
Also I am curious as to why this is not survivable? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 725512
I will try to explain this again:
To rotate the Earth 90 degrees in one hour requires both a change of direction (like turning right in your car) and an acceleration of the Earth to approximately 6,600 mph.
Air and water are fluid, when you are traveling in your car at a steady speed you don't feel the motion, slow down, speed up or change direction and your body moves, this is the effect of inertia, so the air above Earth and the water on the surface will suddenly move at 9 times the speed of sound.
A six thousand mph world wide hurricane followed by a six thousand mph world wide Tsunami not a single thing will be left alive, nothing.

The earth rotates on its axis once each day. Since the circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,901.55 miles, a spot on the equator rotates at approximately 1037.5646 miles per hour (1037.5646 times 24 equals 24,901.55) (1669.8 km/h).
At the North Pole (90 degrees north) and South Pole (90 degrees south), the speed is effectively zero since that spot rotates once in 24 hours, a very, very slow speed.
In addition to the rotational speed of the earth spinning on its axis, the earth is also speeding at about 66,660 miles per hour (107278.87 km/h) in its revolution around the sun once ever 365.2425 days.

Science IS something we can agree upon. That's the point. If you construct a hypothesis and an experiment to prove or disprove it, those result should be repeatable.
Philisophical arguments about Zetatalk really ARE pointless. After all, evidence means very little in such a debate. It's all opinion.
Zetatalk's track record is BUILT on her past claims, and the whole Planet X/Poleshift idea is, by its very nature, astronomical. That's not spiritual. That's science.
If it WEREN'T about astronomy, why did Nancy invade the sci.astro newsgroup? She could have posted in alt.art-bell, or alt.alien, or alt.philosophy, or alt.teotwawki, or a HOST of other newsgroups. Heck, those others would have probably welcomed her ideas, without critically examining her ideas. But she didn't. She *chose* sci.astro, which is about the scientific discussion of astronomy. SHE chose it. Not anyone else.
When she did, she opened the door into her ideas being scrutinized scientifically. If she had merely said 'I believe,' or hadn't done the wonderful 'Zeta 100 percent accuracy' claims, or hadn't picked a specific date for PX to show up, I doubt there'd be PX debunkers. Zetatalk would have faded into the Internet Crank noise of others.
The spiritual aspect of Zetatalk didn't even APPEAR until years later, as her claims became harder and harder to support, and more and more evidence mounted that PX wasn't like she or her aliens claimed it was. Hence, white lies, elements of doubt, moving planets, and other excuses needed to be added to the Zeta mythology.
And mythology it is. I don't think there is a better way to describe the whole of the ideas of Nancy.
Zetatalk mythology rests on supposed Zeta accuracy. Without the 100 percent accuracy Zetatalk claims, its just another Internet End of the World Cult.
So, lets start with the Zeta's testable, and supposedly accurate, astronomical claims. There are observations ANYONE can make which will demonstrate the accuracy of the Zeta claims.
Experiment #1: Go see a GOTO telescope in action. Is it working? Then Zetatalk is wrong.
Experiment #2: See any astrophotographs? Do they have exposure times over six hours? Then Zetatalk is wrong.
Experiment #3: Get a sextant. Sight the North star. Does it read your latitude? Then Zetatalk is wrong.
Experiment #4: Set up a Foucault Pendulum. Does it swing as predicted? Then Zrtatalk is wrong.
Experiment #5: Get a tide chart. Does it predict the tide? Then Zetatalk is wrong.
Experiment #6: Get a GPS. Does it accurately show your latitude and longitude at a place where you KNOW what the latitude and longitude is? Then Zetatalk is wrong.
Experiment #7: Get a camera. Aim it at the North Celestial Pole and take a long exposure photograph. Do the star trails make circles around the NCP? Then Zetatalk is wrong.
If these experiments DON'T prove Zetatalk is wrong, what experiment would YOU propose? Are you thinking rationally about the Zetatalk idea? |
