Re: Taking care of an Injured Sparrow
Hi everyone,

Just yesterday I had found an injured sparrow in the house, the cat brought it in. I took it outside and let the cat out thinking that it would end its suffering, but nothing happened because she wasn't interested.

Feeling badly for it, I ended up taking care of it. This event happened June 18, 2009.

It is Day 2, and So far she or he is doing alright. I have been feeding the sparrow blueberry seeds, peanuts, bread with tweezers imitating a wild bird feeding its baby, and water

She can not fly or walk, and her right leg is injured where a few feathers had been torn out. Perhaps it is broken. I've bandaged the leg using cut strips of a paper towel, and tying it with floss, carefully as these birds are quite fragile.

Her feces is white, so there is not danger of internal bleeding as far as I can see.

She is in my room for now in a nest I've made for her using an old shirt I don't wear.

Now being that I am very connected with animals, and becoming a Vet tech soon, I have the right to take care of this wild animal.

I expect her to recover in a week or more. Maybe sooner, we'll see how it goes.

The Vet is not an option. This is just a journal entry I am making to update you on the sparrows progress.

~K~

I've also taken pictures so I may show you those also sometime.

Serius ABC, I found an injured pigeon a couple of years ago. It had been injured when we had some very bad winds, I believe it fractured a wing.

When I brought it home I gave it homeopathic remedies Arnica 30Ch and in case of pain Aconite 30CH. Homeopathic remedies work wonders on children and animals because they have no preconceived notions about them.

Needless to say in about three weeks it was on its way .... and you know something.... every once in a while it comes back to visit. I think it would have liked to become a homing pigeon. :)

There is a great deal of negative opinion out there about homeopathy.

I know it works because I have used it on myself. As lately as yesterday, as a matter of fact! I have a bridge which is needing to be worked on because I have a chronic infection in the roots of one of the teeth to the point that it is affecting my jaw bone... as in eating the bone away. One day soon I have to see what can be done. But yesterday for some reason the area of the bridge was excruciatingly painful.... I used a remedy called Dooooosh Vivus, which I instinctively knew wasn't the correct one, but used it anyway.

Went to bed in pain finally fell asleep only to wake up at 4:00 a.m. with worse pain. I finally took the proper remedy which was Dooooosh Corrosivus. Went back to bed fell asleep and when I woke... the pain was gone. This particular remedy is indicated when there is infection in the teeth and the jaw. (It will re-infect again (gums receeding)). Sometimes the remedies work like a miracle.

If I had gone to the dentist like I was planning today because I was getting desperate with the pain, he would have put me on ... antibiotics for two or three weeks.

Hope you can use this information....:)

Hugs

well unfortunately, it died.

There was inflammation of the stomach and rectum. I'm very sad about it, shame.
the minute it touched the water, a tiny bowl of water it died. just like that.

Too bad really. I was looking forward to releasing it.

You might want to avoid feeding it seeds. He won't be getting the gravel needed to churn and digest them.

It really sucks.. regardless it would have died if I had left it there too, but a death even worse.

There is a special food which can be bought in pet stores. Breeders who raise caged birds will sometimes have to purchase it to feed babies.

I had canaries .... the female and male mated and had babies... then for some reason the female wouldn't feed them, so I had to.

This food is specially made to be moistened with either your own saliva or warm water. Your own saliva is preferable because it's more like what they would receive from the parent. I believe it contains a diet more in keeping with what the parents would provide, ground up insects and ground up seeds. FYI

Really?!?!?! What gives you that "right"? I'll bet your local DNR would see things differently. Either take this bird to properly trained wildlife rehab specialists or put it out of it's misery.

Re: Taking care of an Injured Sparrow
but anyway....if anyone has any advise other than a humane society.....they wanna put her down, and i dont because shes not that hurt....i think she flew into my car window because my boyfriend found her under my tire. she can fly like five feet then topples over, today shes hopping around but still a little out of it. she likes when i hold her because shes warm but doesnt seem comfortable anywhere else. the vet says once i let her go she may come back, i just dont want her to die in the mean time and no one will help me

the same thing happened to me like ten minutes ago. my cat chevy brought it in. i thought he was carrying a dead mouse to the back steps. turns out it was a sparrow still living that got brought onto my back porch. i'm leaving it alone to calm down. if it doesn't fly, i'll try to nurse it back to health. poor thing.
