I tend to agree, I believe this is an ancient copy to protect the real one. It will still be very interesting though. If it is the real one, things will move quickly. If it's a copy, it should show us exactly what the real one will look like.
It will also be interesting to see if it still contains the artifacts that the Ark of the Covenant contained - among other things - the tablets that Moses brought down from the mountain with the commandments on them. Aarons Rod and I thinks also a budding branch - not sure though. |

The real Ark of the Covenant is not there (here). If anything is there at all - it is a fake.
(Solomon? had fakes arks made and had them placed at various places because his enemies was always trying to steal the ARK.
It is with God at this time. Read it for yourself:

They already displayed it in the 1990s to a international team of archaeologists.

Back in ancient Israel the Kings would have copies made of the actual Ark and give it as gift the visiting monarchs and ambassadors that made treaties with Israelis.
A copy was given as sign of signing the pact or agreements.
