Anonymous Coward User ID: 708447 Australia 06/21/2009 06:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been hearing those weekly 'INITIAL CLAIMS' numbers for ages. They always have seemed to be about the same as the monthly jobless numbers that come out. I've always assumed that maybe the initial claims, even though they come out weekly, maybe are rolling month numbers??? Maybe I was wrong. Why wouldn't this cause shockwaves? Are 1.5 Million jobs being created each month? Something doesn't make sense. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 699808 United States 06/21/2009 07:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if 2 million people lost jobs monthly give or take, the U-3 % would be well over 30% by now. |

This administrations is so damned corrupt it is unbelievable. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 619969The stat was that the labor force went DOWN by 345,000 in May. However, unemployment went UP by 740,000 for the month of May. The MSM reported the former and pretty much fooled everyone. STILL. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 659821They come out every week, so you can Google the news item each week, or you can go to one of about twenty sites on the internet that post the information, like Yahoo Biz. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 619969 United States 06/21/2009 07:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | it's not per week, the weekly numbers are faltering adjustments during the month. Then they are given a final adjustment at the end of the month, the first week of every month on a Friday. Generally it's been around 500k to 600k. Last month there was slight recovery. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 699808if 2 million people lost jobs monthly give or take, the U-3 % would be well over 30% by now. It is per week. I checked with DOL. Those are the weekly numbers of people filling out the forms. Notice that is is not an average as it jumps all over the place. |

Why wouldn't this cause shockwaves? Are 1.5 Million jobs being created each month? Something doesn't make sense. There are NO JOBS being created...only workplaces that absolutely have to hire due to an unplanned vacancy or death..that is the truth...this is the truth that you will never here from Obama or his administration. Obama and his administration have been going out of their way since they came into office to decimate our workforce by shutting down or taking over every big business in America and guess what? The national service thing he wants ..hes gonna make people wear uniforms while doing it..and the rumor is that the uniforms will be made in China ...hows that for caring about the unemployed in our own country? This new Sin Tax they want to put on soda pop and sugar products will also cost jobs...he is single handidly bankrupting our country and destroying every job he can think of ....now thats CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 702076 United States 06/21/2009 07:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The three million is the total number of people filing for unemployment at that time. This includes continuing as well as initial claims minus the number of people who have either gotten a job or used up their benefits and are no longer filing. INITIAL claims did drop a little, however the total number filing is still a lot. |

You are WRONG, those were 345,000 jobs lost. Where you get your numbers is WRONG, and they and you misinterpret what the BOL is publishing. Go to the source, right hand column... UP Unemployment Level: +787,000 in May 2009 DOWN Change in Employment Level: -437,000 in May 2009 [link to www.bls.gov] So the RISE in unemployment by 787,000 for May was similar to Aprils, But the MSM reported the story of less unemplyment than expected. However, the MSM was publishing another number (decreasing employment, not rising unemployment) which were revised to 437,000 from 345,000. Got it? |
