Lol. Seriously, though. This is COMPLETE speculation, but say they're stockpiling it to make supply so low that the United States couldn't revert back to a gold standard?

Is this even possible/plausible?

Total scam. I had a gold ring I sent them and it was clearly made out of 14K gold because it was stamped on the ring. They sent me a letter back saying it was worthless. The ring was worth at least $500

I'll never deal with those motherfuckers again.

Care to elaborate on why it's not? Insults are fine and all, but they're better when backed with evidence, statistics, and the realization that I may just be trying to create a discussion.

The guys are such scammers. My home was broken into once these commercials aired. Plus I imagine they are making bank and lying to people about what their gold was worth. Is there not a way to stop them??

They pay well below the spot price of gold, melt the jewelry and resell making a hefty profit for doing basically some advertising and basic metallurty activity.

Jewelry gold is grossly overpriced anyway.

Re: The Cash4Gold company...
what everyone needs to remember is this....the gold you send them is NOT pure...14 K...10K...12K...18K...even 22K all has other impure metals combined with the 14 18 20 12 22 gold such as nickle and copper....24K is the only true pure gold...and it's too soft to make jewelry out of...22K is usually the highest content used, and it is extremely soft...hence they add nickle, copper and whatever else to make it hard enough to use for jewelry...in various amounts, depending on the resulting K...10K of course has the least amount of gold...and the most of other impure metals...jewelry can also be gold filled, or gold plated...soooooo when you send your gold to these places...they have to smelt it, in order to extract the pure gold content...and that is what they weigh...a piece can be marked 14K...but it may also have been 14K plated...unless you took a magnifying glass and saw that it was indeed pure 14K gold, it's your word against theirs...I believe I would have taken pictures of the ring, and taken pictures of the mark(but then, I wouldn't have sent any of my gold to them in the first place)...so my question is this...WHY would anyone send someone they don't know...their GOLD jewelry...??? AND trust them to be honest??? I don't get it...and in my opinion...(not that I know anything) it's a scam...I would trust my local jeweler or a jeweler I know personally before I'd trust a totally and completely unknown entity...the stupidity of some people amazes me...Con men..ARE after all, Con men...and as the old adage says...."a fool and his money are soon parted"...

The amount of gold available is no longer relevant. There is not enough gold in the world (or we could never get enough anyway if there is) to back up our currency at the amounts it is now. Yes you could just make it partially backed by gold or start with a new currency...in both cases you still wouldn't need "all" the gold to do it, just base it on what you still have. ANYWAY, they wouldn't stop anybody from going on a gold standard because of the above.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 680963

and one more point...the weight of a ring will amount to grams, not ounces..(most likely you won't even get ounces of gold in a bracelet or necklace)...considering there is approximately 28.35 grams in an ounce..so say a ring of gold weighs 3 grams(and that would be a good heavy ring) ..most rings weigh 2-3 grams total(and that's with the added metals to make it hard)...so when they smelt that ring...depending upon the K of gold...they may only get one gram (NOT ounce)...or about 1/28th of an ounce of pure gold...and that's worth about $33 +/- at $930 an ounce...things are not always what they seem to be...most of the time, the value of jewelry is to the person it belongs/ed to..not actual value...
