It's you the one who writes about the metaphysical aspect of rap and hip hop, it's you the one who claim -what's your basis I wonder- the roots of hip hop and rap are back in history. Really? Inform us both , the WHATs and WHYs. What's the basis to say hip hop or rap is both metaphysical and the root is ancient and according to whom. In this thread I have been very specific. There's a sort of music they do in Brazil with African roots, with A SINGLE simple instrument called in Portuguese "berimbau" and even that is as musical as the Morocco "guitar" we see used by Arabian people playing along with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in "No Quarter".
And even if you proof there's a mystical aspect and very very old which I doubt, that doesn't turn both rap and hip hop into something uplifting even in a spiritual manner for that matter. |

All the movement as a matter of fact is the modern combo : DJing, graffiti writing which is art in the streets wherever they like without asking permission to anyone so fuck neighbor's wall and his/her right to keep it clean, and breakdancing. Other elements include beatboxing, hip hop fashion, and slang. So much for metaphysical and ancient roots in Africa! |

I think music is cathartic, so the heavier rap/hip-hop I listen to (and sometimes heavy rock/metal) when I need to get anger moving though my body and psyche, so it doesn't stay in there and rot my guts out.
It has to have that almost magical Quality

This is the most intelligent comment I've seen so far in all these pages. It is making me think due to the conclusions. I mean, if you see shit all over perhaps is art as well in terms of sound because it allows you to miss roses (not necessarily Guns & Roses). The shit is somehow released. Now, if in the actual physical realms the rappers are not so light tempered probably is because the theory is not so 'sound'. |

Who cares what you say? You have not provided any single evidence of ancient hip hop or rap source, nor metaphysical or that white consume that shit. Now, what happens is there are people who just have a single point of view based upon superficial things. As you can see I am not denying there were black people in Africa long ago who influenced Egyptian history as well. I dunno about this subject line. I used to watch "Yo! MTV Rap" when it first came on TV and liked it very much. It was on for only two hours every Saturday morning.
Then, the bad boys showed up. They were just youngsters who thought it was manly to curse in public. That's all. I simply ignored them. There are still many gems to be found in the rap/hip hop genre. |

I pretty much listen to old country, and most flavors of metal.
I have not been let down by music, you cannot kill the metal!
It just keeps kicking ass. The amount of new shit that comes out on a daily basis is staggering.
I have to agree that soul, and the jazzy style of frat house dance music was one fucking hell of a lot better the the shit they have now. |
