Unknown object quickly approaching the Sun

It occurs to me that if the damn thing's Mercury, then we should see it happening a few times a year. Might be worth taking a look back through the archives.
Here's an image of Mercury taken from SOHO about ten years back. It looks huge there too. Again, the brightness of it dazzles the sensor and overspills into the neighbouring pixels.

Thats what is going make it explode,it is in orbit around the sun and will hit 16 july.
any links to prove a july 16th impact?

This thread will still be going strong in 2 - 3 days time when the object disappears behind the disk masking the sun.
Then the a day later the object (Mercury) will pop out the other side, and the thread will die.
On July 25 a similar thread will appear when the satellite "Stereo A" shows the same thing. |

Look carefully, it slows right at the very end. Does this mean it is on an elliptical orbit and moving away from the camera?
Personally, I am just trying to remain objective. Until we know more, it's all speculative right now. Waiting for them to update their site. |

Hope this isn't a threadkiller, I'm having fun here. Take it for what it's worth:
"Hi -
My guess, from the current positions of the planets:
[link to www.heavens-above.com]
is that it's Venus. If you look at the inset diagram at the upper left, earth is the blue dot, and the STEREO B spacecraft would be a bit more than 45 degrees to the lower left of the Sun-earth line, so Venus would appear to the right of the Sun from STEREO B. (So would Mars, but it would be a lot fainter.) The apparent size of the object shouldn't be taken too seriously in these "space weather beacon" images, which are reduced from their native size of 2048 x 2048 pixels to 256 x 256 (and in this case blown up again) and very heavily compressed, which creates artifacts.
I'm copying this to a colleague at the home institution for the SECCHI instrument suite, who might be able to say more definitively which planet it is. (Unfortunately, our tool for displaying where the STEREO spacecraft are relative to the inner planets is not available right now; we hope to have it up again after the holiday weekend.)
A few days after we get the beacon data, we get the native-
resolution images, and they can be used to make movies like:
[link to secchi.nrl.navy.mil]
in which starts are clearly visible.
Best,
Joe Gurman "

An Earth size planet that was on a trajectory coarse with the sun...nothing would happen to the sun, as it got close basically the object would disintegrate. Comets, asteroids, etc...smack the sun every once in a while, nothing has happened. Here's 2 scenarios which neither are bad: It can either miss the sun or attempt to hit it...but as I stated it will disintegrate before it has a remote chance of hitting it.
If this object is on coarse for the sun and the title of this is quickly approaching sun well than we will shortly than. NOTHING WILL HAPPEN Quoting: RedBull 608327
My question is about the mass-density of a brown dwarf. Since this is all theoretical, will the mass density not permit disintegration before striking the Sun?
Is it possible that instead of the lady finger firecracker into a bonfire, the mass-density is more like a truck load of C4 into that bonfire. That's a LOT of HE and other elements compacted very tightly. If that object gets blowed up will it create a solar particulate wave ejected to... some direction?
What about the outrageous gravity effects of such a mass and how it will bend space and all the energy contained in that space at the Sun's surface? Will it's intense gravity "protect" it's structure from the Suns outputs?
Anyone sure that the moving object isn't very close to Earth and camera perspective makes it appear large and fast moving close to the Sun? There's a lot of materials up in space we launched we are not supposed to know about.
Sorry too many questions. Just trying to think in terms of science not emotion.

It's obvious that the idiots know nothing about looking where the sun is and what's near it right now in a planetarium program, even though several are available for free download on the internet. They can't afford to let actual facts get in the way of a good fantasy. |

The published images seem to be at 15 minute intervals, but some are missing. That would account for the apparent changing speed. Be sure to use images all at the same interval. If there are some missing, just fill in with repeats of the images that are available, or create some in-betweens by some morphing process or other.
The site has not updated since the one at 22:07 UTC. It is now 00:49 UTC on 2 Jul.
There was a 2 hour hiatus between 13:07 and 15:07, so no biggie with that. Just be patient.
A 2-hour gap makes creating the in-betweens a bit of a problem, though. Photoshop much? |
