Here is a prediction:
The object will reach the occultation disk at about 8:36PM July 3 EDT,
and emerge from the other side at about 11:29pm July 4 EDT.
(Based on movement since it first appeared.)
If that happen's is it good or bad ? Quoting: KingDavid
When it pops out - all good.
We will know it's bad if everything goes bright a bit less than half way between those times
... then darkness.
It will be all good, though. Don't stress. |

The two bright points on the right? I think those are Eta and Mu Geminorum. Mercury's not within SOHO's field of view yet; it ought to turn up in a couple of days' time, I reckon the afternoon of the 5th. |

If this is suppose to be a major event (a negative one or something unusual that will happen regarding this unknown 'object') why it is not in the media? I mean, it's a matter of a few days and it's nowhere yet in the media except a couple of threads on the internet.
Does this mean there's nothing to worry about? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 716809
The media? Are you kidding? The media wont tell you shit!

Eyes glued, wonder if its going to use the Suns gravity field as a catapulting energy source, like other Comets have to increase speed, and alter trajectory ?? or splats into ol Sol ? |

What's not resolved? It's Mercury. Are you too stupid to understand that? |

this is the latest compilation of photos. check it out... the sun lets out a huge burst of energy towards the unknown object, yet the object remains unrelentlessly on path for a collision with the sun later on today.

If it's Mercury, it's something like 50 million kilometres behind the Sun. If it isn't, then it could be anywhere - in front or behind. How are you so sure it's on a collision course?
Also, remember that the blackout region isn't actually the Sun, it's the filter concealing the Sun. The actual position of the Sun is marked out by the white circle within the blackout. Once it gets there, switch to the COR1 camera to watch the final approach. |
|
Anonymous Coward User ID: 713708 7/3/2009 7:56 AM | | Re: Unknown object quickly approaching the Sun | Quote | The interesting thing is that that Sun indeed threw some plasma at the object as if it tried to stop that thing...see links above to another forum with animated photos. |

If it's behind the Sun then how come that the Sun is throwing hot plasma exactly at the approaching object seen in the animation? |
