If this was Mercury, when do we wait him to reappear, in which image or images and from what direction? Quoting: Ostria
well, someone can see very easy where mercury is
with a simple astro program like skymap
you sit on earth you look at mercury today time and he is
in the right of the sun some degrees
*Not Behind* the sun where the object is
then put the date front 13-14 july and mercury comes Over
the sun, not behind, Ten (10) days back from the object
another difference is that the object is a lot more faster
than the speed of mercury
the next days we expect to see mercury on stereo and soho
we shall see, who is right, the bad-astro gang or the poor
little researchers, who dissapear chemtrail-debunkerkinks for breakfast :)
hi dunkan:) |

could you please repeat your comment?
........................................
my comment was a bit of a crazy idea..but it has been deleted. so here it is again." the object that is appraoching the sun will hit a spinning point within the suns archetecture thus causing a shockwave that will ricochet the object towards the earth closely missing the moon
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 715777
Well, I guess time will tell but IMO this object behaving strangely and it's not clear what is going to happen.
I'm not expecting any doom related with it though. |

And I think 717633 is right. The object looks more stable in COR1.
..............................
It makes sense that it would. Assume that it's Mercury and that the flickering was due to the sensor being dazzled by the object's brightness. Well, COR2 is designed to study the cooler, thinner outer corona and solar wind, so it's an extremely sensitive camera and the brightness of Mercury produces a significant dazzle effect, spilling over unpredictably into neighbouring pixels and producing the shifting, flickering blob we've seen all week.
Now it's moved into COR1. COR1 is designed to study the much brighter inner corona, the region just above the surface of the Sun. Mercury's still very bright, but it won't dazzle this camera so much, so we'll get less flickering and a more stable picture.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 717916
Makes sense to me, thanks! |

It means that Mercury will be on the opposite possition from Earth.

I don't know. They could be some fast passing space debris or brilliant asteroids. |

This thread is the first in GLP's history that talks about "things like that" without every second post being from "GLP-employees", strange, isn't it? What in the hell happened to them ? A holiday for THEM? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 717919
I believe that's because *they* think it's Mercury, so this would be an unimportant thread. |

Why 4AM tomorrow? It should have returned already.
I've downloaded the last COR1 image, for 21:06hs, about 2 hours ago. And yet no COR2 update. |

What the hell is wrong with you?
The object was occulted by the Sun nearly 11 hours ago and never reappeared.

I just put together the entire photo lapse animation from July 3rd. At the end of the clip, there are no photos between 21:07 and 23:37 UT. Furthermore, there are not any photos listed on their website today from this particular camera angle.

The lack of updates and the fact this supposed "Mercury" is changing speed and form all time seems fishy to me. |
