Why You Keep Ignoring Reality, Even Though You Think You Aren't
I will start with a clip, from science daily, then comment after the link:

"ScienceDaily (July 2, 2009) — We swim in a sea of information, but filter out most of what we see and hear. A new analysis of data from dozens of studies sheds new light on how we choose what we do and do not hear. The study found that while people tend to avoid information that contradicts what they already think or believe, certain factors can cause them to seek out, or at least consider, other points of view."

We have all seen this happen, and possibly recognize our own actions in this article. If you didn't read it, it basically says that people do tend to ignore views contrary to their own, and this causes them to hold a given idea, even if there is a lot of information out there showing their idea to be wrong.

When people feel very strongly on an issue, like debunkers, climate change denialists, flat Earthers and even the odd Planet X'er, they tend to be even more strident about not exposing themselves to contrary viewpoints!

What is not said in this article however is that those with the most incorrect views tend to be among the least able to determine they are incorrect!

So, here is a test for you and your views, how often are you willing to (be honest now!) read viewpoints from respected individuals (no, most things here don't count, real science and thought...A few people here may count, but that's rare...)that counter what you believe on these topics.

If the answer is less than fifty percent of the time, then you have some work to do if you really care about reality at all!

1. Planet X.

Debunker or proponent of this theory, how often do you really read what the other half is saying?

2. Global Climate change:

So, do you spend all your time reading Real Climate and scientific views or do you spend most of your time reading pieces written by people working for oil companies? (I read slightly more denier stuff myself by the way, hoping they will come up with evidence that the world is NOT about to change in unexpected and damaging ways... So far no real joy however.)

3. Flat Earth.

It doesn't matter that you KNOW the Earth is flat OR round...

How often have you looked into the other sides evidence.

4. Moon landing Hoax.

We went or we didn't, you believe one or the other...

But did you do the research?

(I'm lacking on this one honestly. I was taught we went, but I haven't researched the issue a lot...)

Finally...

5. Were Jews slaughtered by Nazis?

Again, you have your beliefs and you read all the literature supporting your side...

But have you looked at the contrary information? If so, was it at least half and from sources equal to one another?

(So no, reading "Uncle Cranks Hate da Joos" blog may not count, unless he is a history professor as well... (Or can prove his research at least.)

So, how do you come out, open minded and willing to learn new things or so closed minded you don't even notice that you are stuck in a possible trap?

The lesson here I think is that we should WANT to be aware of reality, and strive to be open to the facts, even if we don't like them initially.
And all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "save us!"

And I'll look down and whisper "No."

Open mindedness is a gift of grace. Unfortunately most human beings dont use an open mind and they allow beliefs to structure and direct their lives.

Yes. Be silent and still. Listen to the song of your true self.
We the people of the Planet Earth, in order to form a more perfect union,
establish love, insure global harmony, provide for the divine knowledge,
promote the I AM connectivity, and secure the blessings of manifestations
to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish
this Constitution for the Planet Earth.
