If the virus continues to become resistant to anti-virals, like it is being reported from Denmark, Japan and Hong Kong, and given the vast pressure on the healthcare system, it can be safely assumed that the mortality rate will rise considerably from what it is now anyway.

My prediction, and its just based on general observations I've seen over the last few months; that in the UK we will be looking at around 5,000 deaths per day by the end of August.

2 weeks ago someone in school had Swine flu and she sat in exam hall with other girls.
A friend from the same school (who sat in the same exam hall as the girl with Swine flu- Note: This was unknown till later) came to stay with us after end of year exams. The friend stayed for 2 days and then went home. In the evening she felt sick and had a fever. Her mother took her to doctor, they did some tests and then said she had Swine flu. Since she had been staying with us, they contacted us to see how we felt and we said we were OK. We had no Tamiflu and no other drugs prescribed to us. Only the friend who actually had the flu ended up getting the pills. We were told, there was no need for us to worry and continue with every day life. My wife told them that she was a nurse and had to go to work and they said that it was no problem at all and no need for her to stay away from work. Only advice was that if any fever etc should develop then we should get in touch with local GP for some medication.
Meanwhile the friend who had the Swine flu recovered within 3 days (sooner than if she had a normal flu). We are OK and none of us have got the flu. The girls family (5 of them) have been in constant contact with her and none of them have the flu.

It is all very confusing. First hand experience tells us that there is nothing at all in to this and yet they are fear mongering. Go figure........

Wake up people. There is a very good chance that this H1N1 is the mega-doom you have all been so eagerly awaiting. The thing is that it takes time... builds up slowly but surely. Just because there aren't people keeling over in the streets tommorow doesn't mean its not creeping all around us. Those who are smart can see this happening in the overall scheme of nature. We won't stop it. Pretending its not here or is a government conspiracy won't stop it. We are at the mercy of chance. If it mutates one way we are screwed, if it mutates the other way we are just inconvenienced. Simple.
