*It's 16 in the UK, so it's generally (with a very small numebr of exceptions) fairly easy to tell if a girl is under 16. 16-18 or 18+ is a more difficult task.
The age of consent is 16 or 17 in most states in the United States although most seem to think its 18 everywhere here. I guess that misconception comes from Hollywood or the media I dont know.

What makes a child is irrelevant and being sexually mature does not magically turn you into an ADULT. What makes an adult is the full maturity of the brain which for a fact does not occur until around the age of 18! Up until that point especially for females, we need to protect their innocence until they are ready to take full responsiblity for their actions.

judge ws considering the life of the youngest child, the baby. these laws were written by women for women. they are as inflexible as women can be and as often as stupid. here you have evidence, the judge probably had no leeway to act any other way.
Ignoring the fact that the 14 year old almost certainly had zero or very little income. I thought judges in child support cases were supposed to take into account the financial circumstacnes of the father. I agree that the rules are unfair though.
