You presume to know the mind of God? The ancient Hebrews weren't space travelers, nor did they have advanced knowledge of astronomy. The first books of the Bible were written in a way that would make sense to them. We know through observation and experimentation that the Earth is more or less spherical and orbits the sun. No matter how much you misinterpret scripture, it doesn't change reality. |

You guys are leaving out a very important element in all of this discussion. I'm not going to comment on the ties to religion, but from a purely physics point of view, Einstein changed the game over a hundred years ago. Newton's laws work on a rotating and moving Earth as long as all of the elements are in the same inertial frame of reference.
If an airplane is traveling at a great and uniform velocity and not subject to any sudden changes in speed, then within the cabin all Newtonian physics remain intact. If a ball was thrown straight up into the air, it would return down to the hands of the thrower as if the plane was not moving. That is because the people on the plane and its contents are within the same inertial frame of reference.
Newton's laws work quite nicely here on Earth and the Earth's movement doesn't change that fact. This was settled a long time ago.
