It's a time of mixed feelings.
Remembering the integrity of good men and women to form a nation that had a chance, and achieved the improbable, if not impossible.
For many, it is tainted with a sense of bitterness...
We are told we are free.. yet we are slaves to failing banks
We are told we are free.. yet we are attacked for spoken words
We are told we are free.. Yet our basic liberties fall like dominoes in front of us with the strokes of pens, behind wide smiles that wink and say.. "Trust me".
The most gifted, talented and powerful nation in the world can't even keep honest men in charge of OUR money. Money which by the way, is symbolic of debt and is not really representative of anything.
The country we wake up to every day would be appalling to the great men that founded it. For better or worse, they did what they had never done before, the best way they knew how. It wasn't perfect, but it was a start, and it was acheived with what I believe was the nations best interest in mind.
It is a little dark to write stuff like this on the day that we are supposed to stand and be proud. Proud of what we are and what we have become. This is a time to awaken, though.
The men that argued for hours over the smallest details over 200 years ago would not believe the flippancy of our (freely) elected officials. Especially the United States population allowing bills to get passed with enormous wrongdoings to the very people that allow it.
The enormous moxie that it took to leave a King and country would be ashamed at the inability to even pick up a telephone.
We still are what we were, we just don't remember.
You...me.....GLP....WE the people.... WE!
Celebrate independence day the way it should be. The way the founding fathers would have us do it.
Make a call, Write a letter, Send an email.....
It took years to establish a country, can we not send one email? We send hundreds a day.
You will not make a difference, I will not make a difference.
But WE THE PEOPLE, can make a difference..
For God's sake (and our children) let's do it.

I am torn. Can't decide if I should celebrate and light off some fireworks or put on sackcloth and heap ashes upon my head.

You are lucky you live in a contry that gives you a choice! There are many people that will defend our constituitin and bill of rights with their life.
