i'll never understand why a death somewhere overseas equals our freedom. it is a sick indifference and i call bullshit.

I'm curious to know how you came to have this perception that "a death somewhere overseas equals our freedom". How did you come to the conclusion or where did you hear and agree with this?
In your answer, I'd really like an idea of how old you are and if you're American-born as well (to help me better understand) and if you have siblings.
Please explain (Serious question)

my bad
thanks for clearing it up
I didn't realize the cartoon had a bi-line as well.
I have known a few (mostly kids my daughter's age....23) that have thought things like this. I've asked them why and they never gave me a straight answer....until one of them had a brother who was deployed. Perceptions changed really fast.
a Vietnam vet has never "fought for freedom". it is the biggest pile of bullshit. it is like saying .. oh yeah.. well Jesus died for our sins and he died cus he loved us.
it is like hearing some of the worst conspiracy theory church going god fearing bullshit on GLP, yet people believe this somehow. millions, believe that dead people have given us freedom and i don't see how this is so.
the first president and his present day cheney sold us out to the brits. now we have been sold out the by the fed and has anyone died to fight the monetary bullshit? no. has anyone died to fight the lies? no. is peace not part of this independence and freedom? if we start wars, then we are anti-peace and anti-freedom.
our country can not be independent if we are pro-NWO and pro-globalization. we have been England's little devil child from day one. the revolutionary war meant nothing. we are human commerce. england's investments helped the colonists land. who was surrendering? financial obligations and liabilities laid out in place, 1044 on April 24th is a tribute to the king along with English colonies beginning, gee, i wonder. who really was surrendering?

Its just another day deeper in debt, just another day of fighting and dieing for the third world standard of freedoms of others, just another day buying the exports of commies who do not value human rights, which costs the jobs of westerners, while the easterners continue to expand their sweat shops.
Its just another day of paying interest with tax dollars to foreigners, which diverts those dollars from national social programs and infrastructure maintenance, just another day of spreading freedom and democracy in far away lands, while the example of smaller government and personal responsibility is briefly brought up in history lessons which occurred hundreds of years ago.
Its just another day of dreaming the American dream, while the issuance of currency is controlled by foreigners, who by inflation and deflation has bankrupted and isolated the poor and hungry masses which the statue of liberty refers too, who by the design of the system they serve, will one day wake to find themselves homeless on the Continent that their forefathers conquered.
Its just another day to celebrate the temporary international victories of the past by rolling over and looking the other way in the national battles of today and those domestic battles which lay ahead in the morrow.
Its just another day to remain thankful that IOUS still count, that through the pain and suffering of others, Americans today do not have to worry about hunger, war and nakedness like their foreign brethren do every single day, because their nation has never experienced being carpet bombed, that their infrastructure and their culture has never been reduced to dust and burned from the history books, because they managed to sell more weapons and ammo then anyone else ever has. Their military has grown so strong and expensive due to the windfalls of warfare, all the MIC has to do to get the nation out of recession is to declare another war, and so the body counts and the propaganda that generates can then be the driving force to fuel their patriotism and their can do attitudes of killing their fellow man for decades to come.
War what's it good for?, paying the bills, keeping your IUOS valid and making sure new enemies will be lining up to put new names on new war memorials, so yet another generation can sign up voluntarily and go march off to boost the politics of entangling alliances to yet create more enemies to hate and fear.
Happy Independence day!

By fire gold is purified, so is love, by patience.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beggining and the end, says the Lord God, who Is and who Was and who is coming, the Almighty.
Well, those killed in Afghanistan and Iraq aren´t fighting for freedom, but they are seeding oppression. So many wars fought by the US have perpetuated oppression and have been fought with Anerican Corporation interests in mind, or to steal resources in the name of freedom....
Here's John Stadtmiller's musical offering in honor of the day. Apt, in its melancholy. As an American expat in Canada, I'm grieving today for the country I used to believe in. Godspeed, America. Let me know if I can loan you my piccolo.
Happy Independence Day everyone...despite the situation these days, it's good to be around folks that understand that it's more than fireworks and barbeque!

Thank you sir and I agree The people are as much to blame as the people in charge.
WE are supposed to be the decision makers! Whatever happened to that? People fight for an ideal to uphold that, regardless of the country where the blood is spilled. Click link to create a Brute!

I don't know what your experience was. This 4th., of July, was a sad one for me.
I am a resident. I call 4th. of July "USA's Birthday" and I like to put balloons, the flag and celebrate it.
I went to Shnucks. I was surprised to noticed that there were very few 4th., of July ornaments and in general, it didn't feel like other years.
When the butcher waited on me, I told him: "Happy 4th., of July" and he replied: "Whatever".
The cashier replied: "yeah...sure".
Sad. I know the country is in trouble, thanks to greedy politicians. Americans have every right to be angry at them, but why to give up on their country?. This is exactly the time when the country needs all the loyalty, love and support!.
I hope that what I saw today is not the norm. What a sad thing to see some americans giving up on their country. I guess it was easy to be proud of being american when they thought they were the number 1, when everything was good. False patriots.
For the ones who still love their country and no matter what, will be loyal:
HAPPY 4TH. OF JULY!!!!!.
