Dog Question????????
Quote

i have now had my best friend for a little over four years. i first was united with him in the mountains of Steamboat Springs, CO. at that time he did shed but not alot. we lived there for another year. then made our way back east to Myrtle Beach, SC, which was a big climate change. Even then his shedding didnt increase or decrease. i have now moved back to my homeland of WV and he has started shedding like a mofo. clumps and clumps. i will brush him one day and he will still have hair coming out the next. has anyone else had this problem. wondering if it has to the increase of shit our earth is going through or something else.

Re: Dog Question????????Quote

My dogs "predict" weather changes, growing thicker coats during colder winters, shedding more during hotter summers.

Besides your dog simply adjusting to the new climate, I would expect some unusually hot weather in the next 3 months or so. Stock up on water!

Re: Dog Question????????Quote

Stress (yes animals get stressed)

Climate change

If you have not changed his food, then that should not be an issue.....in that case I would chalk it up to stress
from your move, and or climate change...

Wait till he gets more acclimated to everything before you start to really worry.

Another thing, as long as he is eating and drinking you are usually in the clear....

If nothing has not changed within his diet, then that more then likely is not the issue...

Re: Dog Question????????Quote

Add some Omega 3 fatty acid to his food on a daily basis. Will help with the shedding. Moving stress could be another factor but if the dog is normally healthy I would suspect diet issues to be the cause.

You can get capsules from the vet or a local feed store if you have one. If not you can use a teaspoon of 'extra virgin, cold pressed olive oil' in his food 3 times a week.

Re: Dog Question????????Quote

stress of some kind. The good oils are important and barley grass on his food. Adrenal support and probiotics work well for them too. Culturelle is a good one.

Re: Dog Question????????Quote

My vet is fantastic, he takes a very holistic approach to dog care. He recommended the following routine for my 2 German Shepherds and both are in great health.
1- Buy the best possible food you can afford. "Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul" is pricier than grocery store brands, and found only at pet and feed stores, but well worth it.

2- Supplements per day
500 mg vitamin C, 50 mg Co Q-10, 50 mcg Selenium, 440 IU vitamin E.

3- Natural treats, baby carrot sticks etc.

4- Also here is a recipie for a healthy, homemade doggy ice cream.

1 large container of plain white yoghurt, 1 banana, 2 TBS of peanut butter, 2 TBS honey. Mix all in blender, pour into 2 ounce ( bathroom dispenser type ) paper cups and freeze. This is especially helpful for shedding dogs and gassy dogs.

Dogs are not people, variety is not good for them, while our intestines are 30-40 feet long, theirs are about a foot. The constant change in foods is very hard on them. Pick a food and stick with it. Treats should be small and rare.

Be careful with this, to some dogs ascorbic acid (where many vitamins get vitamin C) is toxic.

I live in upstate South Carolina. My Beagle and Lab are both shedding way more than usual this year. When I vacuum the house, I end up with enough dog hair to stuff a cushion.

Re: Dog Question????????Quote

I dont know about the rest of you but here we didnt really have a spring. It stayed pretty chilly most nights up until a few weeks ago , then summer just happened all at once. perhaps the shedding is later of more pronounced due to this.
