The US administration has been saying it sees the first green shoots of economic recovery. However consumer spending remains low in America, and some experts argue the signs are misleading.

What can you get for a dollar? Not much these days.
Its value dropped considerably at the end of June – and this is despite the Obama administration announcing signs of an economic rebound.
Experts think these are false claims of hope. They see a gloomy future for the dollar and say the $787 billion stimulus package passed earlier this year is only making things worse.
“The green shoots that they think they see don’t reflect any genuine economic growth. They reflect the initial reaction to the stimulus. If you shoot someone up with heroin, you’re gonna get a reaction before there is a withdrawal,” says economic expert Peter Schiff.
And as job losses continue in the US and Americans have less money to spend, their problems become everyone’s problems.
“America consumes 25 per cent of the world’s energy. It takes $3 trillion of the world’s exports every year. If America doesn’t consume, the global markets will slow down dramatically,” believes trend expert Gerald Celente.
Faith in the dollar as a global reserve currency is long gone.
“I think the dollar’s days as a reserve currency are over,” Peter Schiff says.
This becomes obvious when China, the biggest foreign holder of the currency, wants out. They’ve even asked for the topic to be discussed at the upcoming G8 financial summit.
Economists are predicting the death of the dollar. But the US has been printing more and more of them to keep its sick economy afloat. |

We do not work together with an american spirit. FOr example, when at a local store the other day, there were 17 cars in the lot. 16 were foreign cars, and one old ford tuck. When in the mall the only store that had any clothes made in the US was at sears. We do not even support our own country. We have to have that BMW and buy clothes from Holister which are made in latin america. We are the laughing stock of the world, and now we are not only in a socialist country we are living in a police state. Ron Paul is just another tool. Instead of facing down the insipid Bernanke, he allows him to give his boiler-plate answers and skate off to the next congress-criminal questioner. Ron Paul barely understands monetary policy, and he sounds like he's trying to think out loud, most of the time he's talking. |

I agree with your premise, however, much of OPEC likes the dollar. Even China making trouble is not what it seems. They have an export based economy, if they stop taking dollar Japan will keep exporting for them, as will south korea, etc.. China wants more power, period. They are pissed because they have so much capacity geared toward the american consumer which is sitting idle. All this talk about the dollar would not be happening if the american consumer were still buying the malibu barbie funhouse. |

"The economic prolems are a direct result of the greed of americans."
BULLSHIT. IT is the result of the mismanagement of the American economy by the Congress as it has been subverted by the CFR.
FOREIGN CARS came here from George Herbert Walker Bush opening up markets in Asia to be used to FUCK American workers. When will you realize that the Bushes -- all of them -- are NAZI CRIMINALS?
FOREIGN CLOTHS came from CFR sending American industry overseas to have labor be done pennies on the dollar so to further fuck over America for the CFR. Do you have a clue who the CFR is?
FOREIGN ELECTRONICS came from BUSH et al. CFR, again. You need to wake up to who the enemy is. It is not foreign countries; it is the Council on Foreign Relations that has in mind to make a global police state in the vein of the Fabian Socialists as led by H. G. Wells and others in an "Open Conspiracy."

This is because all the business's and manufactures have been "regulated" out of business and cannot afford to make anything here. They have no alternative but to go out of the country to survive, but then cannot compete with foreign made goods (chinese, etc.) Our congress and laws have destroyed America under the name of doing good. But for whom? Themselves. |

What you seem to miss is that it doesn't matter where the goods come from or who made it possible it is the American greed that created the market to buy either cheap or expensive imports. Either way the American people did it to themselves.
Unless of course you can show me some pictures of a Bush or a Congress person at a cash with a gun to a consumer head. You had a choice and so many chose what was best for themselves rather than for your country as a whole. In the end it was all about greed.
What you're saying is like someone complaining about being ripped off by a con man because they were trying to make a fast buck without caring about anything other than themselves ....... as they say, you can't con an innocent man.
Perhaps if Americans accepted responsibility for their role in their own demise and got back to being who they bill themselves to be they might stand a chance at making things better. Instead most seem to be wringing their hands at what was "done to them," rather than grabbing a bucket and bailing out your sinking ship. |

Ron Paul is a pathetic weakling. He lost the debate (and his electability for ALL TIME) with the Rudy Giulinani exchange, and he talks like a homeless person who's trying to explain monetary policy to HIMSELF. He has an EXTREMELY POOR grasp of monetary fundamentals, and if he know what he was talking about, he could cut Bernanke into ribbons. (Actually, any 1st year Econ student could do that now, it's all such a fucking fairy tale in Fed-land)
Bernanke wasn't even challenged when he said an AUDIT would be the downfall of the US DOLLAR! ARE YOU KIDDING?????????? |

most of our GDP consists of consumption! The only things we sell to the world are military arms (hence a constant war fever) entertainment, and yes debt. |

anonanon User ID: 265891 7/4/2009 11:21 AM | | Re: A false dawn for the dollar: What the Russians REALLY think about US monetary policy | Quote | Yes, American greed for all sorts of things we really don't need is a part of the problem. Our bulging closets and homes are an example of that.
The other part is Corporate expectations of ever increasing profits rather than stable profits. Now many of them have no profits. They sent jobs to other countries and now seem surprised that no one can actually afford to buy their goods and services and people are buying only the basics again.
Then there is the fact that our corporate taxes are amongst the highest in the world and the Cap & Gouge Trade bill will only make that worse and more jobs will be lost or outsourced.
Then there are the auto unions. In the past few decades most auto workers made more than most teachers and certainly got better retirement benefits than most teachers and cops and firemen.
Keep in mind that it was the American auto companies that made the lemon laws in every state necessary, not Nissan or Toyota both of which make cars and trucks in the USA.
Solution to our money value might be to go on a gold & platinum standard at least for a decade or two. Back our money with something other than a printing press and Wall Street gambling.
That in addition to those in DC stopping the wild spending spree they are on because they see all of us as a giant piggie bank they can tap for more money any time they want to. |

1. Since people are worried about losing their jobs, we have cut back on spending. (Solves the problem of buying more for our bulging closets).
2. If we go onto gold standard, that means prices will have to be adjusted. The dollars currently being used can never be backed by gold. There isn't enough gold to do it. |
