In June 2009, the projected US population was 304,059,724.
In June 2009, the unemployment rate (official) was 9.5%
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the civilian workforce, (which the unemployment figured are calculated for) was 154,926,000, or 50.95% of the total population.
Since 9.5% of them are not working, that leaves 14,717,970 people in addition to the 149,133,724 who are not in the "civilian workforce", giving a total of 163,851,694 people with out full-time jobs.
That gives you a total employment of 46.1% of the total population that actually have full time jobs.

The Government prints the money and makes the laws that we are forced to live under. Later the same government destroys the workplace and forces the value of the PAPER MONEY based on NOTHING to a few cents. In order to rent or own a home one must be a legitimate part of the system. If you want to eat the stores only take the Governments money in cash or credit. So then if 25% of those who have the same goals of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness are out of work then they are not part of the American Dream. They are emigrants and rebels like it or not and are not in the loop.
If we had something of value to trade with then the Government would be less apt to establish a Communistic oligarchy. By all rights if the government makes us play with FIAT paper and makes all the rules then it should supply all of the work as well so that we are able to get back to HAPINESS! Enter the feudal existence of Communism! |

Clinton changed the rules by which unemployment is counted. People whose benefits have run out are no longer counted, nor are people who were employed but who have given up looking for work. Also part timers who want to be full time are not counted, nor are Ph.Ds doing day labor and working at McDonald's. Wrong OP. The unemployment numbers represent the amount of people who wish to be employed that have a job. In other words if your wife stays home with the kids her and the kids are obviously not included in the numbers. So 90 percent of people who wish to be employedare currently employed. That makes a huge difference. |

Well, from another thread tracking the plunge of this depression across several countries... and a look at some dates from Wikipedia.
The "Great Depression" started around June 1929. Run that out till the start of WW II ( "The start of the war is generally held to be September 1, 1939 with the German invasion of Poland." ) you get about 124 months.
The start of our "recession" is generally stated as around April 2008 so, 124 months out is July 2018.
One of the Web Bot guys (George Ure) is of the idea that we are replaying the Great Depression... and so far, the market and the economy seem to be bearing that out.

China has become the cheap labor force for private capital (most first world corporations). That's not Communism (or socialism if you prefer) since under those systems all production is supposed to be owned by the State. China's benefits are employment and higher disposible income. But international capital benefits by producing dirt cheap and exporting to first world consumers. It is becoming clear that that economic model is also not sustainable over the long term.
The problem is sytematic...
