Teach your daughter to respect men...

Re: Teach your daughter to respect men...Quote

The main thing, OP, is that you attribute how you are to all men.

If a girl has a father she sees three times a year, and doesn't call her on her birthday, basically doesn't give a shit and or had girlfriends and he cheated on her other, then that girl is not going to respect men. Because the only role model she has is an asshole.

And other kids never see their dads, so they only have their mother's bitter side of it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 706997

My daughter had a father she saw every day of the week until the mother decided differently. My daughter now 20 asks me when she has a boyfriend issue. Go figure...

It's a two-way street with a lot of tolerance here and there. Unfortunately there has been a lot of propaganda that says men must respect women but no counter-argument that women should respect men. The net result is women abusing men rather than the equality both sexes might wish to foster.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Agreed. And we don't need some friggin billboard telling us to teach our kids to respect the opposite sex. Respect is a two way street.

Women who respect themselves hate being treated like sex objects. They are more about love, need companionship, and a man who talks to them, not only when they want it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 338477

I know women who do respect themselves, but are pre-programmed (by shit like the real billboard I posted back on the first page) to assume that they will automatically be treated as sex objects by men. So when a real man does come along, these women really just don't even know how to handle it.

And then you have little boys, who are raised by mothers that didn't really even want them in the first place. But wanted to sink her claws into some man and thought a kid was just the ticket. Can you imagine being a boy raised by some narcissistic woman who pounds it into his head each day that men are evil?

Bullshit. Women want to to be treated as sex objects, otherwise they would not be reading magazines like Cosmo, or watching shows like Sex and the City,,etc.

Their entire existence is based on getting men to want them.

Re: Teach your daughter to respect men...Quote

Our country tries to teach respect, but the way we go about it only fosters self-indulgence and lack of work ethic. From an early age, we sign our kids up for biddy sports and everyone gets a trophy. Whoopee! You don't have to work, you just show up and you win! Parents get overly involved, which merely shows the kids they don't have to be good sports, either. The kids get into school and we hand them A's for mediocre work (some schools don't even allow anything below a C because is hurts feelings), and the parents all think they have these really brilliant beings and indulge them some more. So at home, when the kids ask for something they get it (Game Boys, WII, Play Station, their own personal room, their own personal TV, computer, refrigerator). It's no wonder that kids don't respect men, women, or the other kids. The only thing they respect is money, what it can buy, and their own selfishness. After all, we have taught them they are perfect, right?

What ever happened to teaching kids that you have to practice at something in order to be good, a "C" is average, and NO, you may not have that?

You can't be taught respect by someone you don't respect.

And in the words of Ferris Bueller, "You can't respect someone who kisses your ass."

Kids today are not being taught respect, they are being taught self-love. Narcissism. Women even more so.

Girls are going to have a hard time respecting men when they grow up inundated by images of the smart, successful girl vs. the stupid, amusing man from TV, Cinema, Billboards everywhere. That stuff programs them. But ideally, between men and women, fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, there would be an ethic of intelligent respect for each other, barring circumstances that make it difficult to show that respect (or negates it altogether).

Raymond is actually one of my favorite shows. And yes I can relate. But that doesn't make it right. Raymond's wife shows him no respect, and yet demands it of him. They dont call it television PROGRAMMING for nothing.

I've left more than one woman when it looked like I was going to wind up like Raymond. In fact, I was just thinking about this last night watching the show. A moment of clarity I guess you could say. When I could see through what I was actually seeing. And suddenly it wasn't funny anymore.
