every movie from hollywood shows no respect for women. This makes women hate men, and distrust all men.
That's bullshit. You think Angelina Jolie is gonna take any shit?
And talk about respect. Look at shows like Raymond, and King of Queens and shit. Women are portrayed as the wise and virtuous, whereas men are protrayed as dumb, dirty, henpeck dogs. So I don't wanna hear it.
(looking for cover....I'm goin in.............)
um
sorry to tell you mr. jack-in-the-box (with whom I can agree often) but if there weren't so many men in this country who could relate to shows like Raymond, and King of Queens (need I add an entire list more of them?),.....they would not be doing reruns of them now.
Raymond is actually one of my favorite shows. And yes I can relate. But that doesn't make it right. Raymond's wife shows him no respect, and yet demands it of him. They dont call it television PROGRAMMING for nothing.
I've left more than one woman when it looked like I was going to wind up like Raymond. In fact, I was just thinking about this last night watching the show. A moment of clarity I guess you could say. When I could see through what I was actually seeing. And suddenly it wasn't funny anymore.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the woman who should respect FIRST?
This is one of those "chicken & egg" kind of things to many, but certainly not to me. Call me old fashioned, but a woman.....well....MOST women are "wired" to RESPOND. If they are treated with respect, they will return it....with some...eventually.
HOWEVER...that being said, a LADY is not likely to be "burned" (or scorned) a second time. We learn quickly (some of us) and become immensely independent if we believe our own life or soul or character boils down to being the property of some dolt-head who doesn't have the common sense that god gave a door knob.
Masculinity isn't represented in a hot head ego, an erect penis, or a couch potato who can only yell at someone to bring a beer and look to old mommy or new mommy to do his laundry and fix food.
ALL SORTS of stereotypes in a call like this one, but generally I disagree with what appears to be the intent of your post.....unless it was in fact to whip up a shitstorm.
Now...you wanna talk about all the stupid young girls who have nothing better to do than get drunk and show their breasts on camera so all these men who should be respected can gawk and drool? That's a whole other thread.
Most men are like whiny babies at home. it wouldn't be funny of there were no truth to it.

Sure you would. The men in my family are like that. They are capable but as soon as my mom is there they act like vegetables that can't get off the couch.

I think it's a question of mutual respect. Most men are wired to respond also, and if they are treated with respect you will get the best out of them, but treat them with disrespect and you'll meet all the stereotypes you despise in double-quick time. However, the main point of the thread was that only one side of the divide is being discussed. Why, because there is only one side to the story...or because someone wants you to buy into that stance. If you've fallen for that then your enemies are not the men in/out of your lives but those who make that suggestion. And shortly they are going to be answering to us.

No, not at all. Respect is a two way street. I just can't stand the mantality of so many women today, even what is portrayed on television, that women are somehow entitled to respect by default, and men are just a bunch of baffoons. When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

it is hard to teach repect for each other , when all they run into is disgusting porn filth on the internet from an early age on. I even had ciber sitter programmed to block this, and still my son found a way to see porn. This is what corrupted young minds to lose respect for each other.

I absolutely agree. It's taught boys and men to expect unrealistic things from women, and has made women feel inadequate; after all, how can they possibly physically compete with the plastic women in porn?
I could go on and on about the negative cycles in both men and women that porn has caused. It's unfortunate so many people see it as "normal" nowadays; they don't even realize what it's done to them and what it's doing to society as a whole.

What are you a prude? Only like it missionary? And dont sit there and act like women don't have unrealistic expectations of men either. Like providing for a child he told you he couldn't afford in the first place. We could start with that.
Now I'm not saying that every woman should act like a porn star, but I've seen plenty of porn and I never expected a woman to do anything she was not comfortable doing. And as far as looks goes, there's plenty of porn out there that doesn't feature tore up plastic models with bad tans and bad boob jobs. I like my women all natural, and in all shapes and sizes. it would have been nice to have someone teach me to respect women, but my father was a doormat and my mother was...i dunno what she was lol, but my sisters were cruel. i never got out much so alas i grew up with a distinct distrust and disrespect for women.
sorry.

Haha, I'm not a prude. I'm just sick of dating men who have expected anal, expected blowjobs without reciprocation, asked ("begged" is more like it) the threesome question, etc. etc. They're a dime a dozen these days, and I'm talking men aged 26 - 35 (my dating range), University educated with great jobs. Men more interested in receiving pleasure than giving pleasure. I'm more of the, "I take care of you, you take care of me" mindset.
You obviously have realistic expectations, Jack. Many don't, and that has thrown decent women like me for a huge loop out in the dating world.
Porn still teaches men that they can "have" multiple partners, still teaches both men and women that they are objects, etc. There's no love present, no commitment, it's all sex, nothing more. No responsibility, etc.
Do women have unrealistic expectations of men? ABSOLUTELY!! I'm equally disgusted with the men and women of today. That's why I spend most of my time alone or with family.
I know how to respect a man, but it's getting *really hard* to find a man worthy of my respect and devotion. That's why I remain single. Too many have ridiculous expectations, too many are ego-driven, etc.

That's a balanced take I think. I wonder that the porn though is a symptom of the issue as much as a cause. Frankly, I find it pretty boring and uninspired anyway.
I've fallen into the sex receive mode only phase a couple of times, once when I'd left a girlfriend who used it as a complete control trip and I expected the next girlfriend perhaps to compensate, and once when I was being disrespected in other ways in a relationship. So in both cases a compensation maybe.
However, a woman who actively determines how the sex is going to be is also confident in her male and probably more tolerant. Most males would be happier with a female who wanted them rather than just compliant. Part of the problem might be that those that messed up carry the baggage onward and compound things.

yes. people can be so awful sometimes..
you must be a strong person to go through that and still manage to be so calmly insightful about it though...
Hard to respect someone who thinks of you as a subordinate, sex object, and domestic servant.
First of all, men need to respect themselves, and control their base urges. Respect needs to be earned, and those who serve others are true leaders. Those who want power, control, and to be waited on are weak.

CONTROL THEIR BASE URGES
Women take a bad rap about being "hormone cases" -- the truth is that men's hormones and power lust are really the cause of most of the suffering on the planet.
Teen aged girls with cell phones will be out of business when the economy goes down to nothing anyway... At that point, we will all begin to learn the meaning of "Respect" first hand.
