For Jackinthebox, I truly hope for your own safety that he is not your guy.
I'm not too worried about it. Not all killers are complete nut jobs. I don't think this is some psycho killer deal. I think it's more "business."
What do you mean 'business?'
Money, revenge.
I don't understand. Drug money? You mentioned you thought it was because of drugs earlier.
Why would he kill an elderly lady and young girl?
The news reports said this guy was unpredictable and I guess he is. Quoting: Cowboy Blue
I'm concerned that Jack is right about it being "business."
We do not yet have the details of the death of the young female prosecutor whose cabin is near the Appalachian Trail. We don't know the location of the cabin, how she died or the circumstances.
If it turns out that her death is from a gun shot wound, and similar to the staging of victims of this "serial" killer, then the "serial" is going to be named a prime suspect in what will be described as a "murder" of the prosecutor.
Right now, her death has been described as being from "natural causes" but that explanation is having trouble holding its water. |

Sorry to hear that. (about person you knew)
It's a real shame for all others too. As you know, people around here are for the most part very friendly, welcoming, and trusting. Just down home kind people. |

Well, just asking because any Lumbee I've ever known had very black, very curly hair, and that is almost always in the description. And, if the guy is local to Gaffney and is Lumbee, which could very well be the case, then he would not look unusual, but they would describe him with black AND curly hair.
Did they say straight light hair?
I have not read a description of the hair, and have only seen sketches drawn from descriptions. Jack, if your friend is Lumbee then you know what I am talking about. Even with a hat, unless it covered every single hair, the person(s) in that area would say something to the effect that he "looked like a Lumbee." These people are handsome and distinctive looking. You don't mistake them for being black Irish or Italian. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 495698
Here's what they are giving as a description. It appears to be updated because earlier they described him with blondish hair, blue eyes and 6 foot 3 inches.
Investigators have released a sketch of the suspect, saying he is in his 40s, with salt and pepper hair, about 6-foot-2, and roughly 200 pounds. They think he is driving a silver 1991-1994 Ford Explorer.
[link to news.yahoo.com]
In the updated sketch they show him with a little longer hair extending beyond his cap and ears.
For what it's worth, take it with a grain of salt I guess, the GLP PSYCIC did a drawing of her/his own and in it was a man with long wavy dark hair.
Links are on page 1 of this thread.
I almost freaked out when I saw the old sketch, still posted on FoxNews. It resembles an older Patrick Swayze. Or at least I thought it did.
I did not know what a Lumbee was and had never heard of such until Jackinthebox mentioned that name along with Oxindine earlier. |

Might not be the victims themselves. But they may be loved ones of someone who IS involved with drugs.
But at the same time too, just because a person is elderly, doesn't mean they are immune from being involved in some shady business. There was this real old lady we used to call Grammie who was the local bootlegger, for example. When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.
Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Robbery is not the motive. It's being made to look that way though. But someone was killed outside of their house, and the house was not robbed. Another person was found dead in Cherokee County late Saturday night. According to crews at the scene, a person’s body was found on the corner of North Petty St. and E. Robinson Street in the city of Gaffney. Authorities say he was found on the sidewalk by a passerby.
Gaffney Police Chief Rick Turner says this killing is not related to the serial killings and more information will be available after an autopsy is performed. Sources tell News Channel 7 that the person looked ‘beaten up”.
This recent death marks the sixth person who has been killed in Cherokee County in the past seven days.

Cherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton says that a chase Thursday night down Highway 11 that ended with a woman killing herself was not related to the recent homicides in Cherokee County or the fatal shooting at a store in Gaffney Thursday night.
Blanton tells News Channel 7’s Melissa Keeney that the chase was a “bizarre coincidence.“ According to Blanton, the chase began on a Frontage Road near Interstate 85 and Highway 11 in Cherokee County as officers initiated attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.
That’s when Blanton says the woman let two teenage occupants out of the car and led Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase down Highway 11 that ended when she crashed the vehicle at Cherokee Memorial Highway. Blanton says that officers pursuing the woman believe that shots were fired at them and saw smoke coming from the side door.
After the crash, Blanton says that the woman shot herself and was not related to the recent rash of homicides in the county.
Thus far, the name of the victim has not been released.

Seems to be several 'unrelated' events in this county. |

The fact that this has happened over such a short time, and with the victims varying in age and sex, it seems more like a spree killer. Serial killers generally have a type don't they? Not only that it is almost like they are making the fear worse. I saw on the news they are saying people shouldn't go to someones door as a salesperson, or if they are stranded with car problems. I mean common sense, be careful. But is it so bad that people would be shooting people that knock on their door? Do they have reason to believe this man is going to start going door to door? |

Serial killer search arrives in N.C. after Gaston Co. shooting
GASTONIA, N.C. -- Officials from South Carolina are in Gaston County this afternoon, looking into similarities between the Gaffney, S.C., serial killer and an officer-involved shooting early Monday morning in North Carolina.
A champagne-colored Ford Explorer, similar to the one sought in South Carolina, is currently parked outside of the home where the shootout took place with Gaston County law enforcement officials.
South Carolina officials are on the scene looking into similarities between the suspect description of a sketch of the man wanted in Gaffney and the one shot and killed in Gaston County.
According to police, officers responding to a burglary call around 3 a.m. Monday found three people at a home on Dallas-Spencer Mountain Road.
During the interview process after responding to the burglary call, officers determined two of the individuals they located at the scene lived at the residence and the third subject was an acquaintance. Officers began to check the individuals for identification, and one provided false information.
A second check on the suspect individual uncovered an outstanding warrant from Lincoln County. Officers attempted to serve the outstanding warrant when the suspect pulled his gun.
Officials say officers got into a confrontation with the suspect inside the home, leading to Officer J.K. Shaw getting shot by the suspect in the leg. Shaw returned fire, killing the suspect. The wounded officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
Shaw, along with officers K.L. Williamson and G.J. Kuzia are placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Stay tuned to News 14 Carolina for updates.
