NSW is in a blackout crisis, with residents hit with almost 10,000 power outages a year.
Residents of Sydney, the Illawarra, Central Coast and the Hunter were left without power for almost 1.4 million minutes in just 11 months from June last year to May.
Almost a year after the spectacular failure of the proposed power sell-off, which led to Morris Iemma's downfall as premier, it can be revealed that a third of the 9284 blackouts were caused by equipment failure.
Broken equipment caused three out of the top 10 longest blackouts in the state over the past three years, with the outages lasting between three days and four hours and three days and 12 hours.
In the past three years there have been a total of 30,520 blackouts with the longest lasting almost 46 days at a property in the Hunter where non-vital farm equipment had been damaged by floods.

Great post, Opie.
Hal Lindsey keeps saying that an EMP seems quite possible to him.
For an enemy it seems like a simple way to dominate a super power.... cut OFF their power.
I know North Korea's practice missles keep going to the perfect height that causes an EMP.
I guess the best investment, after water and ammo/canned goods is
a solar generator.... |

I've posted this seveal times. The NRL, Naval Research Laboratory website, posted a warning about problems that could occur with GOES satellites on 10/11/09. These warnings were posted earlier this week. Don't know if this is important, or not, but it strikes me as odd that they would know about this so far in advance. If the GOES satellites go down its possible that other satellites will go down as well! |
