Here is my question, if a funeral is scheduled here, the family is expected to pay for it, who is going to pay for this huge memorial service for Michael Jackson, is the family paying the 2 million for the security or is California?

Quite frankly, you're an idiot.
Now, now, now, now. I don't claim to be a genius, but I seriously doubt that I am an idiot. I am a strong conservative who knows that a well constructed stimulus plan will save us from collapse. Geode nli User ID: 712555 7/5/2009 5:53 PM | | Re: CALIFORNIA IS IN DEFAULT! | Quote | I have lived in Cali for most of my life. It is more than sad to see what has become of this beautiful, and productive wonderland. The liberals, in league with the greedy unions and government workers have saddled our tax base with outrageous salaries, health care plans, and worst of all golden-parachute pension plans that eclipse the most extravagent private sector plans. One mayor in a small LA town is getting over $500,000 per year into perpetuity as his pension benefit. School teachers getting paid more than any other state in the union, yet 50% drop out rate and amongst the worst SAT test scores. Cali used to have the best schools and test scores.
Our illegal alien(Mexicans primarily) population receives more billions than our state budget is underwater, so that IS the biggest problem. Due to the US govs unwillingness to stem the flow of illegals across the southern border, Schwartzneger is justified in asking for federal dollars to make up for those expenses that they have caused. He should have cut off the welfare/hospitals/ and the Calif Medicaid etc. programs to all illegals and stood up to the ultra liberal State Legislature, but he became very pussified after a couple of defeats via propositions he espoused and pushed for.
Our agricultural industry used to be stupendously strong with amazing productivity, but due to idiotic Federal EPA laws is being destroyed in our Central Valley where most of our agriculture is located. The EPA has forced the closure of much of our acqueduct fed irragation system water which transports water from the Sierra Nevada mountain snow melt to the farmers. Without the water, huge swaths of farmland is laying fallow or has withering/dead crops. It is beyond sad, and will lead to skyrocketing produce prices, and more of our foodstuffs coming from Mexico and S. America. More lost revenue for the state and lots of additional unemployed.
Real Estate has been dropping more than most other states, and thus property taxes are heading down quickly. We really need bankruptcy protection so the pension obligations can be rewritten to align with private sector pension payout levels. Otherwise, it's curtains for the biggest State Economy in the union....California here I come(or here we go)!!!

|
Geode nli User ID: 712555 7/5/2009 6:07 PM | | Re: CALIFORNIA IS IN DEFAULT! | Quote | Forgot to mention that the reason for shutting down the acqueduct water to the farmers is due to a small delta fish which adapted to the acqueducts and is on the endangered species list. They get sucked into the pumps and killed so the idiotic EPA forces the shut down of our entire agricultural system. Many of the farmers have already been forced into bankruptcy, with a flood of others next year. No planting will occur next year if there is no assurance of water availability. |

You cannot seriously be speaking of California. We produce about half the nation's food supply. We are diversified in our produce. Fruits, both fresh and processed, vegetables the same, nuts and dried proudcts, forest products and on and on. We export our technology too and so much more. |

Joe_Neubarth User ID: 619969 (OP) 7/5/2009 6:21 PM | | Re: CALIFORNIA IS IN DEFAULT! | Quote | Bankruptcy for California is the only logical path out of this mess. Maximum pension for anybody should be reduced to 30,000/yr. A bankruptcy could allow the court to make that judgment.
The state has the worst and most wasteful school system in the history of the world. With a bankruptcy the state could set up a voucher system that would cost less than half of the present system. Parents could chose to have their children taught in church schools, cooperative school or even home schools as long as the children tested at grade level or above.
All of the ultra liberal social welfare systems need to be shut down. If the illegals and their children can not work to support themselves, they can go back to Mexico and save the state 25 Billion a year in social expense. |

you don't produce half my food supply , buckwheat. even so it doesn't take 38 million calisites to produce all that food more like 3 million if that. so fucko if you think the rest of the states are going bail out your top 5 useless eater employers. you are sadly mistaken .
trade, transportation, and utilities; government; professional and business services; education and health services; and leisure and hospitality. In terms of output, the five largest sectors are financial services, followed by trade, transportation, and utilities; education and health services; government; and manufacturing.

if you are seriously implying you are entitled to a bailout or you will hold the food supply hostage. you are in for one rude awakening bud , 35 million calitards are expendable if you care to take that track ) |

Geode nli User ID: 712555 7/5/2009 6:41 PM | | Re: CALIFORNIA IS IN DEFAULT! | Quote | The class size with only 20 to 25 students per classroom is absurd, and in no way has improved learning. When I went to school in Cali the classes were 35 to 40 students per class and I went straight into UCLA from High School with a sky high SAT score, especially compared with what they are producing currently. Larger class size doesn't reduce learning, poor teaching, and poor language skills do. Smaller class size requires more teachers and more classrooms being constructed. The unions LOVE both of these requirements and they fund the Dems to the max, with deceptive TV ads that run multiple times per hour on all local programs during any pre-election period. State workers get salaries that are not to be believed plus benefit packages that would make many CEO's jealous. The previous prosperity of our state has allowed these abuses to remain in place, but they've run up against the wall, and karma will have its due!!! |

There is no legal way for a state to go bankrupt....it is not an option....they may only default and pay their debts a a later date as tax revenue becomes available.
This idea of state bankruptcy is derived from our woeful educational system....seems at least half of respondents to posts regarding states defaults think they should go bankrupt.

The only justification for Federal "bailout" money being paid to Cali, and it is well justified due to the following reason IMHO, is that the Federal Govt. has failed in its obligation to protect the states from the illegal invasion by foreigners crossing our southern borders. They have not built the MANDATED border fence, and refused to fund that project beyond a small initial pseudo-effort to build a few miles of fence. Our budget deficit is considerably LESS than the costs our state is suffering from the illegal alien problem. We would not be near bankruptcy and would not have a deficit were it not for the Feds failure to do their job!!!!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 717523 7/5/2009 7:10 PM | | Re: CALIFORNIA IS IN DEFAULT! | Quote | Yes you can. You need to go to war NOW! Just as WW2 is the only thing that got you out of the Great Depression, a huge war now is the only thing that will get you out of this economic disaster. The choice is yours. Well, no, actually, it isn't yours. The decision has already been made. The war with Iran will continue on schedule whether you want it or not. You're just being encouraged to go along with it through looming economic disaster. But I'm sure you'll make the right choice. So get your gear together and start singing those patriotic songs. You don't want FOX News to publicly smear your for being UNPATRIOTIC, do you? Of course you don't! You need that weekly paycheck to pay your lifelong debt to the banks and feed your family. You're going to Iran to kill as many muslims as you can. Have a nice trip! Sorry, I won't be going. I have to stay here to watch my investments skyrocket in value while the war is being waged. But while I'm here I'll be waving the flag and wearing a yellow ribbon, and I'll be pointing the finger at all the UNPATRIOTIC desenters who denouce the war or refuse to wear the ribbons.
--------
uh how do you expect to find the trillions needed for a new war?
as our credit is now worthless-and isnt that just what we need-to do as FDR did-
borrow even more money -although back when we had no debt-to carry on a war?
