As more and more become unemployed and are forced to turn to crime, the prisons will be overflowing and forced to put many in forced-labor camps/jobs/road gangs, etc. This will cause even more unemployment until we are all totally enslaved and/or imprisoned. |

Yes you can. You need to go to war NOW! Just as WW2 is the only thing that got you out of the Great Depression, a huge war now is the only thing that will get you out of this economic disaster. The choice is yours. Well, no, actually, it isn't yours. The decision has already been made. The war with Iran will continue on schedule whether you want it or not. You're just being encouraged to go along with it through looming economic disaster. But I'm sure you'll make the right choice. So get your gear together and start singing those patriotic songs. By issuing IOU's, they are in legal default on short term debt. Technically, those creditors can take the state into Federal Bankruptcy Court to get payment. With the economy rapidly collapsing week after week, the revenue to the state is rapidly collapsing, too. Quoting: Joe_Neubarth 619969

Detroit & the Union's led the car industry into oblivion (it had been dead & bankrupt for years, just nobody admitted it).
And I know it sucks....but the reality is California really does lead the nation in many ways - "as California goes, so goes the nation" is kind of true given that Cali is the largest state economically by a long shot, is somewhere between the 6th and 8th largest economy in the WORLD depending on which study you read, and it's just a leader is sooo many categories - good and bad.
So it doesn't matter which people like California or which people hate California - the bottom line is this:
The deterioration of the largest economy in the United States, along with rising unemployment is going to inevitably impact the rest of the country. As long as California continues in this direction so will the rest of the United States. If California isn't bailed out, or doesn't magically fix it's problems - then it WILL create a domino effect and many other states will suffer the same fate. |

The only question is - do we bail Cali out or not?
Personally I say no, and it's the same reason I opposed the corporate bailouts and TARP program. The entire system is corrupt and unhealthy, this ever-increasing system of perpetual debt has reached an end. You can't keep borrowing and taking on more & more debt because eventually the payments on the interest alone consume the entire budget....that and along with all of the entitlement programs and illegal immigration problems have caused us to reach our limit.
So I think bailing out corporations or bailing out states both do the same thing - delay the inevitable and continue to keep this inherently flawed system on life-support.
The outcome will be the same regardless of which choice is made. You can't escape the mathematical certainty - so I vote to let the flawed & corrupt system fail NOW, get it over with, and start over......rather than kick the can down the road for another 1-2 years at most. |

I have lived in Cali for most of my life. It is more than sad to see what has become of this beautiful, and productive wonderland. The liberals, in league with the greedy unions and government workers have saddled our tax base with outrageous salaries, health care plans, and worst of all golden-parachute pension plans that eclipse the most extravagent private sector plans. One mayor in a small LA town is getting over $500,000 per year into perpetuity as his pension benefit. School teachers getting paid more than any other state in the union, yet 50% drop out rate and amongst the worst SAT test scores. Cali used to have the best schools and test scores.
Our illegal alien(Mexicans primarily) population receives more billions than our state budget is underwater, so that IS the biggest problem. Due to the US govs unwillingness to stem the flow of illegals across the southern border, Schwartzneger is justified in asking for federal dollars to make up for those expenses that they have caused. He should have cut off the welfare/hospitals/ and the Calif Medicaid etc. programs to all illegals and stood up to the ultra liberal State Legislature, but he became very pussified after a couple of defeats via propositions he espoused and pushed for.
Our agricultural industry used to be stupendously strong with amazing productivity, but due to idiotic Federal EPA laws is being destroyed in our Central Valley where most of our agriculture is located. The EPA has forced the closure of much of our acqueduct fed irragation system water which transports water from the Sierra Nevada mountain snow melt to the farmers. Without the water, huge swaths of farmland is laying fallow or has withering/dead crops. It is beyond sad, and will lead to skyrocketing produce prices, and more of our foodstuffs coming from Mexico and S. America. More lost revenue for the state and lots of additional unemployed.
Real Estate has been dropping more than most other states, and thus property taxes are heading down quickly. We really need bankruptcy protection so the pension obligations can be rewritten to align with private sector pension payout levels. Otherwise, it's curtains for the biggest State Economy in the union....California here I come(or here we go)!!!

Get involved in politics of that state! We need people like you in office, even if it is too late. |
