Quick question for the other reloaders around.

I am about out of small pistol and critically low on small rifle primers.

I have checked all the normal online outlets that I know and use as well as the local ones around. Has anyone seen any?

Re: PrimersQuote

If you find any, please let us know! I stopped by my local gun shop last week and asked if he had any primers...He just chuckled...Same story on most powders also.

If you're desperate, you can still find the match grade primers a big premium...

You can backorder them on the web retailer sites, and wait a few weeks, or pay double on gunbroker.

I'm hearing mid 2010 before manufacturing can catch up with demand.

In the mean-time, I'm shooting a lot more .22 and a lot less center-fire.

Same here....my last couple of trips to our sink hole of a gun range, I was noticing lots of .22's out there....and now I find almost no brass at all to collect.....People are fully aware of the value of spent brass....oh well, I rode that horse for a while..lol

I don't even want to waste a few .308's to sight in this new scope!

Wish I had saved all my factory bought ammo and shot my reloads. I firmly believe this ammo is like money in the bank for bartering. In fact, a friend of mine couldn't get any .45 Colt for his new Ruger Judge...sold out everywhere...so I loaded him up some .45 in exchange for borrowing a trailer....

Anybody else already doing some bartering?

Me too. Wally World still has plenty of CCI H-V and Stingers. I'm thinking of trying some of the Aguila .22...any experience with their ammo?

The only Aguila I've used are the 60 grain Sniper Sub-Sonics.
It functioned fine, but honestly, is louder than 40 grain Wolf Match ammo which is also sub-sonic.

You should try the CCI Quick Shock.....it breaks up into 3 pieces on impact...It blows up water jugs quite nicely and should be an awesome cartridge for the smaller critters..

It will flat chew up a paper target attached to board backstop...this stuff is mean for a .22lr..

Haven't tried any of the Wolf .22s but may have to in the near future. I've always been a fan of Win. Super-X. Stopped in at a new area gun shop the other day and they had 3 Win. 1906's for about $900 apiece. The one I grew up with got lost in a house fire.

The Wolf is excellent ammo, but it is expensive! I mostly have a mix of Win Super X and Federal bulk packs, plus a few hundred rounds of the Wolf and Aguila and a couple varieties of CCI.

Isn't the 1906 the same model the shooter in the holocaust museum used a few weeks ago?

How is that site attached? Does the take-down pin secure it, or is a custom drill/tap job?

Plenty of primers on gunbroker. The premium is not too bad, I have sold some small rifle primers for $42/1000 vs the 27/1000 they cost.

The take down pin is replaced by a screw and a nut that fits on a recess in the sight body. You have to remove the sight to remove the dust-cover. The sight has 4 little allen set screws that, so far, have worked very well to maintain zero when removing and re-installing the sight. Just use plenty of loctite on them. ;)

Picked up a beat up SKS Sporter (with thumbhole stock) for (seriously) pennies a while back. Jumped on the deal so fast it wasn't until I got it home I realized it took AK mags. Cleaned it up and took it out for the first time. Guess I'm going to have to find some replacement mags since it's reliability is more than a little suspect. If that doesn't do it, next on the list will be new springs and clean out the gas tube.

A lot of people pay ridiculous amounts for those!

Check the front end of the gas tube for excessive gas leakage.
Some people fix them by making a little gasket out of a bent paper clip.

I haven't shot it for groups off a bench, but I can hit a milk jug consistently at 200 yds from a prone position. That's good enough for me from a rifle that cost less than $200 total shooting surplus ammo.
