have cams going showing as you turn it off and as it continues to up usage ...the maker of unit might be responable for a faulty unit and all units could be doing the same thing ...they are made in mas quanity so if one serious is defective then all series made on that line is defective ... |

Wow...so then really there is probably only one answer...that meter is not set properly or isn't made to read the load accurately.....I would almost guarantee that every one of that brand is wrong.
As far as independent testing goes?...they read Meter model x12345yz and the book says it reads 100 kwh +- 1kwh in test fixture abc678-1...if the test protocol is supplied by the manufaturer?...it might not get caught...
Also if it set up for Euro power?...it's set to read 50hz....put it on ours at 60hz?...it could read 20% over right out of the gate without a single thing being wrong with the meter.

They rely on complacency when they embark upon these scams.
Most people don't care and just pay it.
They are not going to go to jail because they can always blame it on unforeseen technical issues.
Basically they look at it like this, if out of 1000 people 5 people complain and they have to give refunds rebates etc.
Then that is 995 who are happily paying DOUBLE the cost for electricity.
Even if 50% of people complained and noticed it.
Think about the profits from just 50% being double billed.
Think of the staggering profits on that out of 100 MILLION people?
We are talking Billions in extra profits.
The CEO's of the energy company's own lots of stock in the company.
The most important thing for the CEO is to get the stock price up because then THEY make money.
This should be banned for all CEO's to own stock in the company because think about the insider trading implications that happen on a daily basis? |

Trin did you get a quality picture of it through your CCTV that can be zoomed in on? Seems to be alot of different variations of these meters out there. Did you notice what "Type" it was?

You can ask the other guy here who works in the field, but that sounds like they weren't quite sure what they were doing. They should have tested YOUR load first to see if it was primarily capacitive or inductive (phase angle), then adjusted the "beast" to provide the same load type for testing. A load inst a load. Heating coils and fans will again be essentially inductive. If your load is capacitive it will read completely different. I don't doubt the meter was mis-reading. I just think its cuz your electric company has retards doing engineering. Quoting: AnTiSoShAL 420394

That's not true mercury2, heating coils are 99 percent resistive=effective load as they mostly produce heat, the inductive component is negligible, the naming 'coils' is a bit misleading here, they aren't made to produce magnetic fields, winding just increases the effective lengths of the resistive wire.
Also the fans itself draw very little current in respect to the heating power even if the fans are mixed load indeed but even then mostly only when they run up, pushing air is an effective load either.
The meters should only account effective loads and neglect reactive components anyway.

My yard is huge...
So like the electrician had turned on all the breakers for the yard lights but the timers were all reset cause they had been off... so they came on at midnight for 6 hours one night the second day the smart meter was on..
I saw them and turned them off again the next day cause they suck down too much power..
Well the fucking guys came out with an HOURLY GRAPH of my power usage going wtf is this spike at midnight all about..
I then proceeded to show them the multiple 400 watt yard lights I have around the perimeter and they were like ohh... well we noticed it was only that one night and were wondering what was up with that...
so yea...
they can track EVERYTHING with this smart meter shit..

I hooked up a water misting system around my A/C condensers.
It kicks on with the units and sprays them with a fine mist of cool water. Water usage in only about 10 gallons per hour for 2 condensers. The condensers seem to run about 30% LESS. I used a inline water filter to keep scale from forming on the cooling fins.

I'm looking to install gutters and re-capture this water in a 100 gal tank and recycle it. Now I have to figure out how to cool it.
BTW, the power co, saw the drop in my power usage and they sent someone out to inspect the meter. Boo Hoo ... the engineer loved my idea so much he said he was going to try it himself. |

I am very interested in what they are going to do and I am wanting to follow the route you taking so that when I confront them (again, this started two months ago) I can at least have some intellegent history on someone bringing the glitch to light. Also the fans itself draw very little current in respect to the heating power even if the fans are mixed load indeed but even then mostly only when they run up, pushing air is an effective load either.
The meters should only account effective loads and neglect reactive components anyway. Quoting: FreeFlow

Power transmission is NOT my specialty, however, and I'm sure he can find better witnesses than myself. I work primarily in radio, communications and computers. My knowledge of power factors comes from some classes and having worked for a company that was harassed by ComEd because we changed our load type significantly AFTER we had commercial power installed, and because I worked 12 years for a machine control company. In factories and manufacturing, having a power factor mis-stated in you service can cost you enormous amounts, so some of the machinery we developed deliberately attempted to fall outside the expected power factor for its type to make our products look more attractive to potential buyers. |

No antisoshal, I am not out not to doubt your expertize which is for sure there but the fans themselves are mostly resistive either as long they pull air, only when running without fans the motors would be inductive as long they have no friction in the bearings ...
Also again you can safely neglect the inductive component of heating coils as they are made of resistive wires to produce heat.
And additionally you can also neglect the power consumption of the fans as it's the heating wires that draw the main current there.
