so what they are saying, is that they programmed the meters all wrong.. lol
Heck all they should be doing it measuring volt/amp draws over time...
But natrually it's got the flag 'screw the customer 2x++' set.
I'm just glad someone is fighting them..
As for me, I live in a place where we buy our power in bulk... so I pay a fraction compared to residential... I just wonder how long we can keep this up.

I have a brother who lives in the Atlanta area. He commented to me some time back about the ability of power companies to manipulate the digital meters to charge you more or show you used more electricity then you did. It is the digital meter that is the problem. |

What exactly is that meter doing to make such a monstrous overload ? ( I mean a normal scam would increase by 20% max so to go unoticed for long enough)
Why didn't they just tweaked the meter to put some charge done in off-peak time report in on-peak time ? |

Do you know if the "firmware code" can be requested ?
Since this is what seem to cause trouble (according to them) and that this should not be a "proprietary code" as there are no corporate secret inside it.
I think if this goes all the way to court the company will have to provide the code in order to prove something went wrong outside their knowledge.
The main point in court will be if they KNEW beforehand that those meter were innacurate. |

Alright so the head engineer called me back today to tell me they had found the problem with the meters and said they wanted to come right out and show me.
I said, "where is the report I requested documenting the test results." He said, "well since we're a cooperative we're not bound by the utility commission laws and we don't have to provide one." I said, "oohhh reeaallly"....
"Well here is what is going to happen now... I'm going to call my attorney and we're going to file a lawsuit against your company. Then we're going to drag all 3 of you guys who preformed the test down for depositions under oath."
I said, "there is no way I am taking that smart meter back on my house and if you're refusing to provide me power if I don't take it I also want that in writing."
I said, "you provide me my report then we'll talk further"
and hung up on him..

BEWARE of their explanation of "programming error." I remind you that voter fraud is done by programming and access to the system in vivo for modification.
I fully expect that your finding/problem is not an individual problem. I suspect that there is widespread overbilling and most people are too stupid to notice and too ill informed of law to pursue it if they do notice variance. There is a high level WHITE COLLAR CRIME going on here. Someone in the utilities company/coop is making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month extra money.
I would now hire a private detective to investigate the records of "smart meters" to a surrounding 25 homes. If you find more than 3 of them with the same sudden "overbilling" problem, then you have SYSTEMIC FRAUD AND A MAJOR CRIME THAT COULD BRING A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT AND YOU COULD FIND THAT YOU AND YOUR CLASS WOULD OWN THE UTILTY COOP.
GO FOR IT! I bet more than 3 or the 25 have overbilling issues. |

It shouldn't take a week to get an answer to my question as to being required or not to take a smart meter to be provided service.
You should be able to put together the report you were working on today and still send that along minus the certs...
Serial numbers will take a couple minutes to pull off the meters...

woohoo! i just talked to a friend i haven't seen in about a year. he actually stated in mid conversation that he is having problems because his powerbill has become outlandish, and he's expecting a child within the next month. i've heard a couple times here that you live in NW Fl Trin, as do he and I, so i told him to look into this to see if this might be his problem as well. he had to move from where he lived next to me to another place, so i don't know if their meters are different.
you sound like you got yourself a sharp little blade to poke back at these bastards! don't let this slip quietly into the night, you could be saving thousands of people just like my friend the other day who have no idea that something like this could happen without anyone getting in trouble.

Please don't "Go away quietly" and I know it's easy for me to say but if you are not a greedy Ahole and want to do what is right for All of us, then do not settle and sign a hush hush agreement. Do whats right please! I can assure you that you will gain more over time if you fight the fight than if you cave in to a small financial gain to keep quiet. You know they will try and settle. |

Hmmm...well Amps X Volts = KW....if the meter is supposed to be programed for 2 110V legs....but they programmed it for 220V?...well there ya go...exactly double....I'm sure the same meter could be used for 440V as well....I'm guessing it doesn't read the voltage on the fly....just the current/amps...then it makes the calculation in it's little computer brain and displays the KWH's used. Could even be a DIP switch setting, not software.

but 3 engineers from the power company came out and with a fresh meter and didn't know this?
failed utterly?
isn't it their responsibility to verify these meters are calibrated correctly before installing them in the field?
what do you want to bet it's that way on every house that has one of these with my company
we'll see what their report says I guess
I'm sure they will spend ample time on their "excuse" as to why this happened..

Maybe the OEM?
I would be interested. Do they have a wireless router, 3g interface, or any other interface that let's them program the functions at will?
