My monthly kilowatt usage was 2750 last month
They put this new meter on my house tuesday and so far it says I've used 900 kilowatt hours!
It's been less than a week!
That means I'm gonna be DOUBLE the usage I was on the old meter
This is total bullshit

I've got an 1800 watt hair dryer I'm gonna go out there and hook up...
Gonna run it on a lone circuit off the main outside panel..
That should use 1 kilowatt hour in 33.333 minutes...
I'm gonna get the meter to tick ahead and then start the test..

Trinity, I don't know much about the smart meters. Do the meters power down appliances for short periods of time?
I did some work for a guy several years ago that was in the development stages of a system that sounds similar to what you have mentioned.

Odd. Our bill didn't seem to change when the switch was made at our house in Tampa. If it did, it was very little...it certainly didn't double. Quoting: Circuit Breaker
Ours quadrupled and now still runs very high when we are not in the house (traveling) and have only basic appliances plugged in.
There is a class action lawsuit in TX over this issue and against the company who owns the infrastructure (formerly TXU).

There's a power metering device you should acquire for your own purposes anyway. The mfr. name is BRAND Manufacturing as I recall. They are up in New England somewhere. Search it out on the web. Many PV Solar companies know about them and use their products for verifying electric load power consumptions when designing PV system installations. Using that device [or something similar] you could PROVE what your actual power usages are when the local power weasels show up to argue differently. They may not like it, but that is more than fair to do don't you think? |

if the ground on your main breaker panel is not connected properly or not grounding right then the new meters will read more usage (kwh)than what you are using. |

Try this, last year we were without any power for an entire week and bill ran in the same range as the month before.
My meter was installed Thursday and i was startled to find this guy in my yard, did not have a clue anything was going to be happening. It reads 152 presently. |

1875 watt hair dryer on a single circuit with main breaker off
meter was dead stopped before applying the load
meter JUST change to 908 kw hours..
took the meter 18 minutes to goto 909 kwh
That's is 100% PROOF RED HANDED that they are doubling the loads

that load should have taken exactly 32 minutes to use 1 kwh
it took 18 minutes to use 1kwh on the new meter
this is IN LINE with the nearly double power usage I am showing since they installed this meter
I am calling the engineers out here monday and I'm gonna prove it to their faces
