Hey Trin,

Did you get your electric bill after smart meter was installed? Is it close to what it should be?

Thx

Meter at 120v actual current 120v draw 50 amps = 50x120=6000 = 6kw
Meter at 120v actual current 110v draw 55 amps = 55x120=6600 = 6.6kw

10% across million of customers?....it's huge...and who would know. Even 5% and varrying?...still huge. If people were made of aware of that simple concept?...I bet there would be a lot of angry people....they wouldn't like that would they....

spock

you're onto something here bro...

I'm glad you replied and caught it....I think so too...could you imagine the shockwave accross the Electrical utility industry if it could be proven that a consistant under voltage condition was present?...Holy fuck it would be huge...people getting ripped off for years. Even at a couple or few percent?...it would add up to Billions.

Maybe apply some pressure and Follow up your previous e-mail with something like this....see if they react.

10. Do these new smart meters measure and compensate for common changes in Voltages supplied as well as current?
11. If a Co-Op customer were supplied an Under-voltage service resulting in increased current draw, would the meter read more KWH's for this condition?
12. Is it common practice for Electrical Utilities to supply under voltage service thus resulting in an increased meter reading for the same overall level of electrical power supplied?

Optional...

13 1/2....Do you realize the giant shitstorm I might stir up ya weasels?.

Bro if you have a volt meter,....take a couple readings...I bet they are a few volts at least low, I've checked some of my own in the past and they are always consistantly a few volts low...this could become the class action of the century if was proven to be deliberate, which it would virtually have to be.

shows that a litle knoledge is indeed a bad thing....

I would suggest that all that are worrying about the `nasty new meters reading high and are ripping `ME' off'

google power correction factors...

you see

for about the last 20 years- the consumers have been ripping off the power companies!!!!

the old `spinny wheel' meters are only accurate- with a resistive load (ie light bulbs are mostly a resistive load)

when most houses had a 0% phase shift (or near enough) that was ok

u paid what u used, and the elec company budgeted for those demands...

now- almost everything in your house is using a `inverter' or `switchmode' load- that i can say is true in almost all houses these days

problem is - these loads are what are called inductive loads

now they have a small issue with what is known in the trade as leading or lagging current

see with an purely resistive load (like most were years ago when the spinny meters were designed)- the current and the voltage spikes were together...

now a inductive load has what is for the power companies a bad thing

the voltage and the current dont spike together no more

so when the voltage is low- the current is high

now this has 2 effects....

1 you get undercharged the more modern powersupplies you plug in (I'm sure most of you are going `woohoo- bring it on...')

2 the neutral supply cable in a delta wound config is now carrying actual currents way higher than the `customers' demand shows it is...

now most people will look at (and most only understand even the results of 1.... )

but 2 is actually far more important!!!

you can certainly keep your old spinny meter

but expect certain power outages as transformers overheat and burn out

or expect a 100% supply all the time- then expect the power coompanies to want to know what is actually happening on the grid.....

imho- if i had a spinny mwheel meter and when the power company put a new electronic one in and my power bill rose...

just be thankful they aren't back charging you for all those years you have been ripping them off........

(and if you dont want them to actually know how much power they have to be actually using- without burning out their gear...)

dont stop them from knowing it by putting accurate meters in!!!

or maybe the ones like the trinity would prefer a cheaper bill- but hours/days/weeks and even possibly months of NO POWER as the damaged equipement and cables are replaced......

its one of the reason's California had so many problems- for years the power companies trusted that the meters were actually reading right- because swapping in new meters would cost $$ and we cant actually spend money- the shareholders would be outraged that they were paying for new equipement- even as the engineers at the plants told them that if they didnt up power the grid it would fall over....

and soon it didnt matter how much they spent on adds- the generators simply could not supply the ACTUAL demand rather than the `shown' demand on the outdated and inaccurate meters the shareholders were being shown as the power used...

like trinitys...
